Gets Purina Chows Dealership Third Tourist Aid Workshop Set March 3 Wilmington The third of a ser ies of State-wide workahop clinics being held by the Department of Conaervation and Developments State Touriat Bureau to aid the touriat industry to do a better over all job will be held here Wednes day, March 3. The tourist workshop clinic is sponsored by the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, the South eastern North Carolina Beach As sociation, and the Wilmington Her- 1 chants Association. It will pre cede by five days the third annual tourist training program to be held here at Wilmington College under sponsorship of the Wilmington Merchants Asociation and Wilming ton College's Distributive Educa tion Department. CiD Director Ben E. Douglas said the clinic will present spe cialists from the various fields of the State's multi-million dollar tourist industry, and that it will be aimed prinuiiily at management. Tourist industry employees, who are urged to attend the clinic to be held at 2 p.m. in the Commun ity Center, will benefit from what they hear, Douglas added. Fred Whitaker, manager of the C 4 D Department's Tourist Bur eau, organized the clinic and will present the following speakers on the program: Commissioner Ed ward Scheidt of the State Depart ment of Motor Vehicles; T. E. Pickard of Charlotte, vice president and general manager, Carolina Mo tor Club; Marley M. Melvin, Ral eigh. executive vice president, N. C Association of Quality Restau rants; C. F. Dority, Goldsboro, executive secretary, N. C. Service Station Association; and Thomp son Greenwood, Raleigh, executive secretary, N. C. Merchants Asso ciation. Douglas will summarize the dis cussions and preside at a question and answer period climaxing the meeting. The public is invited. ? 0. T Spivey, owner of G. T. Mr. and Mr*. Spivey live in Beau fort where their daughter Ann at tends Beaufort High School. Their son Ted, is a student at N. C. State College. Vermont Enlists Pupils' Help Montpelier, Vt. (AP)? Children of other states seeking the usual printed material describing Ver mont are going to receive some let ters snd illustrations done by their counterparts in Green Mountain state schools. The Greater Vermont Associa tion ? Vern\pnt's Chamber of Commerce ? receives hundreds of letters annually asking for the ma terial. Because the GVA cannot afford ?not yet, at least? to print ma terial for the purpose. Miss Elisa beth Shoemaker, its manager, ask ed the state department of educa tion if the letters could be turned over to Vermont children of the approximate ages of the out-of state writers. She suggested that Vermont children could make "pen pals" of the children in other states. C Telephone 6 4646 Robert Rouse First to File For Solicitor Robert Rouse . . . seeks nomination On Wednesday Robert D. Rouse Jr., Farmville attorney, became the first to file officially with the State Board of Elections for the Office of solicitor in the Fifth Ju dicial District in the Hay primar ies. He is a candidate for the Dem ocratic nomination. In filing Mr. Rouse made this statement: "One nf the finest op portunities for public service today is in the maintenance of the faith of our people in the administra tion of justice in our courts. The solicitor by planning his trial dock ets and by preparing his cases care fully can save the people a great deal of time and expense in attend ing court as witnesses and as jur ors. These things 1 promise to do." Mr. Rouse is a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy as a lieutenant (j.g.) While in service he participated in the Nor mandy invasion. He has been en gaged in the practice of law with John B. Lewis in Farmville since graduating from the University of North Carolina Law School in 1949. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert D. Rouse of Farmville and is married to the former Letha Hol loman of Farmville. They have one son. He has served as Commander of the Farmville American Legion and as President of the Farmville Junior Chamber of Commerce. He is a past vice-president of the North Carolina Junior Chamber of Commerce. In 1950 he received the Distinguished Service Award. Currently he is serving as a mem ber of the Board of Commission ers. He is a Mason and a Rotarian. An active member of the Farmville Christian Church, he has served as a Sunday school teacher and as superintendent of the Sunday School and as a member of the Board of Deacons. Youngsters Foil Police Radar Speed Equipment Green Bay, Wis. (AP) ? Brown County police were doing a rushing business in suburban Allouez, using their new radar equipment to pick up speeders. Suddenly, every car approaching the radar location slowed down to a strictly legal 25 miles an hour. The police officers finally inves tigated.
