Literary and Art De partment, Civic Center Junior Woman's Club to Provide Transportation for Passengers 500 Attend PTA Meeting At School Monday Night Five hundred attended the "Back to School" meeting of the More head City Parent-Teacher Associa tion Tuesday night. G. T. Windell, principal, said it was one of the largest attendances ever at a PTA meeting. All the class rooms were open. Parents went to the rooms of their children and visited with pupils and Uachen. I It has been decided to give a book to the grade having the high est attendance, with a minimum of 10 parents present. Mrs. Lucile Smith's room in the primary grade won the book for attendance and Mrs. Mamie. Taylor's room In the grammar grades also won. There were no winners in the high school. Mrs. S. A. Horton was appointed chairman for the grade mothers and the Halloween Carnival is be ing planned for Friday, Oct. 29. Director Appointed vMiss Joyce Taylor, of Asheville, has been appointed director of re ligious education and secretary to the First Baptist Church, More head City. Miss Taylor may be contacted in the rtiurch Bible study hall from 9 'til S every day except Saturday and Sunday. At their meeting Wednesday night at the Inlet Inn, Beaufort, members of the Morehead City Junior Woman's Club made plans to offer transportation to Stock holm passengers from their hotels or from the bus station to the port The members will meet at the port at 10 o'clock) tomorrow morn ing for directions regarding trans portation of the passengers. Mrs. Harvey Hamilton Jr., presi dent, called the meeting to order and Miss Elizabeth Lambeth gave the Moravian blessing. At the completion of the dinner Mrs. Ted Hardy called the roll and read the m^iutes of the last meeting. Mrs. Norman Post, trea surer, gave her report, and Mrs. J. C. Harvell introduced the new members of the club. They are Mrs. Ray Cummins, Mrs. Eleanor Bass, Mrs. Malcolm Goodwin, Mrs. C. W. Miss Lambert gave a report on the district meeting of the Wo man's Club in Beaufort last month. More Girl Scout leaders were re quested by Mrs. Theodore Rice. The drive to raise funds for Girl Scouts will be from Nov. 1 to Nov. 16. Mrs. Mary Dern proposed a pro ject for the club, an old fashioned ham and baked' bean dinner. Mrs. E. A. Council Releases Program for Garden, Civic Club Mr*. E. A. Council, chairman of the Garden and Civic Departmeat of the Woman1! Club hat presented the program of the club for the remainder of the year. At the meeting on Oct. 20, the topic will be "Gardens," presented try Miss Amy Muse, of Beaufort. The hostesses will be Mrs. Percy Deyo, Mrs. Paul Webb, Mrs Phil lip Ball, Mrs J. R Morrill and Mrs. George Bowles. At the meeting on Jan. 19, 1955, the topic will be "Herbs" to be presented by Mrs. William Elli Donald Lee Austin Weds Miss Jean Adell Guthrie In a late afternoon candlelight ceremony in Franklin Memorial Methodist Church Thursday, Oct. 7, Miss J?an Adell Guthrie, be came the bride of Mr. Donald Lee Austin of Beaufort. ? Miss Guthrie is the daughter of Mrs. Joe B. Murphy of Morchead City and Mr. Austin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Austin of Beau fort. The Rev. Louis Dillman, Camp Glenn Methodist minister, and the Rev. Samuel Moore, pastor of the church, performed the double ring ceremony before an altar lighted with candles ana banked with ivy. Mrs. C. R. Austin, organist from Beaufort, presented a program of nuptial music preceding the ser vice. She played Believe Me, If All Those Endearing Young Charms, O Perfect Love and the Ave Maria. The bride, who was unattended, wore a beige two-piece suit with brown and gold accessories. She carried a white Bible given to her by the Tri-Hi-Y, covered in white satin and topped with a purple or chid and sprays of lilies of the valley. The bridal couple entered the church together. fhe mpther of the bride wore a suit of grey wool with black acces sories and a corsage of red carna tions. For her going-away corsage, the bride wore the orchid from her Bible. After a wedding trip to the western part of the state, the couple will make their home at RFD Beaufort. The bride is a 1953 graduate of the Morehead City High School. The bridegroom attended Beaufort High School and is now employed by the Whiteway Laundry of More head City. An out-of-town guest at the wed ding was Mrs. Clyde Mason, of Norfolk. Camp Glepn PTA to Meet The Camp Glenn PTA will meet Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the lunch room. Mr. Willis, Miss Merrill Married Saturday Night Miss Martha Merrill, daughter of Mr. Daniel Merrill of Morehead City and Mrs. Iva Belle Styron of Wilmington, Del., and Mr. Lewis Pierson Willis, son of Mrs. Glenn B. Willis, and the late Mr. Willis of Beaufort were united in mar raige Saturday evening at 8 p.m. at the home of The Rev. R. T. Willis Jr., Morehead City. The Rev. Mr. Willis officiated at the double ring ceremony. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a street length dress of blue taffeta, and a corsage, of white orchids. Her maid of honor and only at tendant, Miss Mary Lou Davis, of Morehead City, wore a two tone blue street-length dress and her flowers were pink carnations. Mr. Glenn B. Willis Jr., was his brother's best man. Upon their return from their wedding trip to Manteo, the couple will reside in Beaufort. The bride is a junior at the Morehead City High School and the groom is a graduate of Beaufort High School. Mrs. Glenn B. Willis and family entertained at a reception at their home on Ann Street, Beaufort, fol lowing the ceremony. Flower arrangements of roses, gladioli and crhysanthemums in pink and white interspersed with silver foliage were used througout the home. The table was covered with a cut work cloth apd centered with the traditional bridal cake. Garlands of ivy encircled the cake and it was flanked by silver candelabra with lighted pink and white tapers. The punch table was covered with a white lace cloth over pink with white satin bnws at each cor ner. Mrs. Cicero Hardison, of Morehead City, aunt of the bride, presided at the punch bowl, assist ed by Mrs. Peggy Gibbs, of More head City. Mrs. Arlene Akerley, presi dent, gave the devotional and used "Wisdom'' as her topic. Mrs. Fred Davis led in prayer. Mrs. Wade and Mrs. Sterlen sang a duet, "Beyond the Sunset." Mrs. Sterlen closed the meeting with a payer for the sick, and then the club surprised Mrs. Smith, teacher of the class, by bringing out a table centerecj with a birth day cake and surrounded by gifts. The hostess, assisted by Mrs. S. C. Holloway, served punch and cookies in addition to the cake. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Holloway Nov. 9. Mrs. Lola Kenyon was a visitor. Miss Brinson Gives History of Essays Miss Pearl Brinson presented the program at the Lanier Book Club at the Civic Center Tuesday night. She gave a history of essay. Refreshments of I ice cream sodas and cake were served Wednesday Bridge Club Honors Three Guests Mrs Harvey Hamilton was hostess this week to the Wednesday Bridge Club at he/ home on Sunset Drive. Special guests were Mrs. Bill Blair. Crab Point, Miss Clara Blair, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mrs. Charles Canfield, of Morehead City. High score was won by Mrs. C'aufield, second high by Mrs. B. P. Royal and low score, Mrs. S. W. Thompson. Refreshments of orange sodas, cheese biscuits, date bars, mints and nuts were served at the end of play. Dowdy Infant Taken To Wilmington Hocpital Harriet Keene Dowdy, infant daughter of Mr. and Mr* W P. Dowdy Jr., of Morehead c?ily. who weighed two pounds, three ounces at birth, Oct. 7, at the Morebead City Hospital, has been taken to the premature baby center of the Janes Walker Memorial Hospital in Wilmington to be under the supervision of Dr. J. B Sidbury. The infant, according to reports received Wednesday, was getting along all right. Mrs. Dowdy is a former seventh grade teacher in the Morehead City School.
