being enlarged and impro
ved to give faster and bet
ter communication service.
This will meet a need that
assumed almost emergency
proportions at times, es
pecially through the sum
mer months when increas
ed activities and many vis
itors and summer residents
greatly taxed existing fac
ilities.
Thus, another indication
of our changing status. As
the community grows and
the volume of business ex
pands the demand for ser
vices and utilities of all

“Divine Guidance” Week
The American Legion
has designated a “Divine
Guidance” Week and the
national commander has
called on the 17,410 Legion
Posts* and their 13,428 Aux
iilary units to, join in this
great movement.
The Legion’s motto has
always been “For God and
Country”. This is now being
given a deeper mtailing
than ever before.
In calling for a continu
ing “go to church” move
ment the Legion takes the
iniative. It calls for the na
tion to join in this crusade
stalled and faster service
will be of great convenience
and benefit.

Convention the 22nd day of April, 1950. If nominated
and elected I shall serve the people of Yancey County

Courthouse 'in Burnsville
each Monday to accept en
listments for these two
military services.
Any person between 17
and 34 can apply for enlist
ment in the Army or Air
Force subject to whatever
regulations are in effect at
the time of applying. Fur
ther information in this re
spect can be secured by con
tacting Sgt. Wapinski or
Sgt. Belt.
At the present time the
Army has open the follow- 1
branches„ for direct en- 1
ristment: Infantry, Field
i Artillery, Coast Artillery,
! Armored Command, Engi
neers or regular Army.un
assigned. If a man is inter
ested in the Air Force he
will be enlisted for Air
: Force unassigned.

for further screening and
if successful in passing,

House, Burnsville, N. C., until
11:00 o’clock A. M. E. S. T.,
April 12th, 1950 and immediately
thereafter publicly opened and
read, in the Court Room of. the
Yancey County Court House,
Burnsville, N. C., for the furnish
ing of labor, materials anl equip
ment entering into the reconstruc
tion of the Bee Log School Build
ing and appurtenances thereto.
Proposals received after the hour
and date specified above will not
be considered.
I Separate bids will be received
for the General Contract and the
Electrical Contract.
Complete plans, specifications,
and contract documents will be
available foi inspection at the
office of the Owner, and in the
office of the Architect, Lindsey
M. Gudger, 52 Carter Street,
Asheville, N. C. after March 15th,
1950. Plans, specifications, and
other contract documents may be
obtained by prime contractors up
on deposit of $30.00 in cash or
check, for General Contract;
$30.00 in cash or check for Elec
trical Contract. The full deposit
will be returned to contractors
submitting bona fide proposals,
provided plans and specifications
are returned to the Architect in
good condition within ten days
after the date set for receiving
of bids. Subcontractor’s deposits
will be refunded less cost of
printing and handling.
All Contractors are hereby
notified that they must have pro
per license under the State laws
governing their respective trades.
Each proposal shall be accom
panied by a cash deposit, or by a
certified check drawn on and cer
tified by some bank or trust com
pany insured by the Federal De
posit Insurance Corporation, in an
amount equal to not less than 5%
of the proposal; or in lieu thereof
a bidder may offer a Certified
Check of 2% of the bid plus a bid
bond of 3% of the bid; said depos
it to be retained by the Owner as
liquidated damages in event of
failure of the successful bidder to
execute the contract within ten
days after the award, or to give
satisfactory surety as required by
law. (Public Laws 1933, Section
1, Chapter 400, General Statutes
of North Carolina, 1943, C 143

Performance Bond will be re
quired in amountrof xme hundred

Payment will be made on the
basis of ninety percent (90%) of
monthly estimates and final pay
ment made upon completion and
acceptance of J.e work.
No bid may be withdrawn after
the scheduled closing time for the
receipt of bids for a _ period of
thirty days.
The Owner reserves the right
to reject any or all bids and to
waive informalities.
