PAGE 8 THE YANCEY JOURNAL AUGUST 17, 1972 Visitors Enjoy Crafts, Entertainment And Food At Festival V There is no quoslion — the Crafi Festival held on ihelia'iis- villc town square this year was a great success. Any way you measure its achievement— by attendance, volume of sales, or appreciative comments of visilors--it fax surpassed the best previous year. A community project cf this sort, needless to say, doesn’t just happen. An immense amount of work goes into plan- mng, promotion and serving and entertaining the public. Far more people were involwd in far more effort than most people would suppose. Since the greater part of this work was contributed by unpaid volunteers, the Festival was a fine example of cooperative community' effort, Yancey County can be proud of the project, and owes a debt of gratitude to the many who con- U’ibuted to its success. The Craft Festival, as well as the Youth Jamboree, which takes place the same week, are projects of the Yancey County Chamber of Commerce, But since, in final analysis, the Chamber is simply representa tive of the county's citizens-- principaliy those concernedwiii improving the community— it is fair to say that the Festival was the project of just us. Anyone looking around at the Festival cotild see on every hand evidence of the broad con- mimity support. There were the three shifts of volunteers perspiring over the chicken bar becue, and the many women helping serve. There were the numerous entertainers contribu ting their time. And specially noteworthy was the sight of sum mer visitors pitching,in for a hard day’s work. The Chamber makes some : inoney from the Festival and the Youtli Jamboree, all of which is put to good use in sup porting projects for the county^ . betterment. The best way for citizens to show appreciation for the work of the Chamber is to join the organization. The annual membership drive is now underway.
