3.98 Pour BY TERRY POPE Despite the weekend's rainj weather, flounder fishermen once again gathered at Shallotte Point for an informal flounder tournamenl held at Hughes' Marina. Betty Baker of Greensboro cap tured first place with her 3.SS-pouiK catch, reported marina operator Allison Hughes. Tommy Johnson anc David Hobbs of Shallotte Point wnr I the cash prize for catching the mosl flounder in the tournament. "There were right many flounder caught," Ms. Hughes said. I Flounder were also biting from the piers over the weekend, area piei operators reported. Here are the reports from area piers anc marinas: Holden Beach Pier Before the rains came, fishermer at Holden Beach Pier were having z "fairly good week," reported Gil Bass. "They're getting a good start today," Bass said Monday morning. Flounder, spots and whitings were caught from the pier last week. There were no large fish, drum blues or king mackerel caught frorr the pier last week, Bass reported. Sunset Beach Pier "It was a fair week, nothing spectacular," Joluiny Hill of the Suasel Beach Pier reported. Hill did weigh several large catches last week including the follow ing: a nine-pound sheepshead; a three-fourths pound pompano and a half-pound whiting. Fishermen were also catching spots last week. Hill said. Inlet View Marina "I just don't have anything good ti say," reported Joe Furr at Inlet View Marina at Ocean Isle. Spots and flounder made up the "little fellows" inshore. Crisp said, but offshore fishing was halted by poor weather.
