Four people were seriously injured
last week in accidents on Brunswick
County highways, the State Highway
Patrol reported.
In an accident on U.S. 74-76 near

injured when her her 1979 Buick ran
off the road and struck a tree,
Trooper B.D. Barnhardt reported.
Ms. Risch was traveling east about
11.3 miles west of Belville at the time
of the accident.
According to Barnhardt's report,
Ms. Risch's car ran off the pavement
and onto the shoulder, went out of
control and crossed a ditchbank
before striking a tree.
Ms. Risch and two passengers,
Phillip Risch, 15, and Iieilana Risch,
11, were all seriously injured and
taken to New Hanover Memorial
Hospital in Wilmington.

Congested weekend traffic contributed
to four weekend highway accidents
in Shallotte, said Shallotte
Police Sgt. Rodney Gausc, including
three that occurred within an hour
Friday afternoon.
"We had a lot of accidents this
week, mostly because of heavy traffic

nabow Saturday night, a Riegelwood
man was seriously injured when his
1983 Volkswagen overturned in the
median on U.S. 17 around 8:30 p.m.
Walter Glenn Parks, 58, of P.O.
Box 215, Rieglewood, was traveling
north on U.S. 17 when his car ran off
the road and onto the median, turned
over several times and came to rest
on its top, Trooper J.V. Dove
reported.
No charges have been filed in the
accident. Dove reported. The driver
stated he was forced off the road by
another car.

U.S. 17 to hold traffic so that he
could enter the road. But the Cumbee
auto was in front of the squad car.
Everett didn't see it, Evans' report

damages.
Thirty-five minutes later, an accident

minor injuries Saturday in a two-car
accident at the intersection of Stanbury

Robert C. lowing, 37, was injured
when his 1981 Ford was struck by a
1985 Chrysler anven ny umma
Bellamy, 52, of Baltimore, Md.
According to Dove's report, Ms.
Bellamy's car ran a stop sign and
struck Lawing's vehicle. She was
charged with failing to stop for a stop
sign.
Lawing was taken to the
Brunswick Hospital in Supply and
treated. Damage was estimated at
$2,000 to the Bellamy vehicle and
$1,000 to the I-awing car.

Then, at 2:45 p.m., Evans responded
to an accident on N.C. 179 just
west of Sellers Drive in which both
drivers were described as negligent,
but no charges filed.
Jerry I>ee Bell, 37, of Route 2,
Shallotte, was traveling south on
N.C. 179 in a 1974 Lincoln, while
Jenette King McPherson, 49, of Ash,
was northbound on N.C. 179. When
McPherson attempted a left turn onto
Sellers Drive, Bell's auto struck
tin? side of McPherson's 1981 Ford.
Evans' report indicated a large truck
was in front of McPherson and she
couldn't see the road clearly.
Damages were estimated at $1,000 to
Bell's auto and $1,500 to McPherson's
auto.
Officer Evans noted in her report
that both drivers were apparently
negligent. Neither was cited.
Saturday at 8:05 a.m., reported
Patrol Officer Eddie Reynolds, a
Tabor City woman, Ila Gray Stevens,
40, was northbound on N.c. 170 in a
1984 Chevrolet. She was attempting a
right turn into the parking lot at
Brunswick Auto Parts when a 1973
Oldsmobile operated by Steven I.
Nagy Jr. of Kensington, Md., overtook
her car and attempted to pass
along the right side of the parking lot.
No charges were filed. Damages
were about $950 to the Stevens auto
and $800 to Nagy's car.
Bean Supper Set
St. Brendan's Catholic Mission will
hold a New England Bean Supper on
Wednesday, July 31, beginning at 5
p.m. at Brendan Hall on U.S. 17 south
of Shallotte.
Spokesman Ignore Dawson said
the menu would include New
England baked beams, ham, Boston

beverage at $4.25 per plate. No
tickets are necessary; pay when
served. Take outs are available and
dinners may be divided for children.

Marvin P Gray, 67, of Route 6,
Shallotte, died Wednesday in the
Veterans Administration Medical
Center in Fayetteville.
The funeral was held Sunday at
Ocean View Baptist Church, with
Rev. Macon Wood and Rev. J.D.
Hewett officiating. Entombment was
in the Brunswick Memorial Gardens
mausoleum.
Gray was born in Newsoms, Va.,
on Feb. 26, 1918, the son of the late
Willie Davis and Dora Drake Gray.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs.
Eva Gray of the home; a son, James
(Jimmy) Waverly Gray of Supply;
two daughters, Mrs. Peggy G. Dunn
of Richmond, Va., and Mrs. Susan G.
Hubbs of San Antonio, Texas; a
brother, B.G. Gray of Newsoms, Va.;
and two granddaughters, Miss
Angela Dunn of Richmond, Va., and
Miss Felicia Gray of Supply.
CLIFFORD F. BENNETT
Clifford Faxion Bennett of Wilmington
died Thursday in New
Hanover Memorial Hospital.
The funeral was held at New Life
Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Robinson
and Rev. Anson Smith officiating.

at the graveside in New Life
Baptist Church Cemetery by
Shallotte Masonic Lodge No. 727 A.F.
& A.M.
Bennett was born March 9,1929, in
Exum, the son of Mrs. Thelma Simmons
Bennett and the late Barney
Randall Bennett.
He was a member of New life Baptist
Church, St. John's Masonic
Ixxige No. 1 A.F. & A.M., the Scottish
Rite Bodies. He was a veteran of the
U.S. Air Forice and was associated
with Federal Paperboard Co. for 31
years.
In addition to his mother, survivors
include two sons, Barney Randall
Bennett and Andre Bennett, both of
Wilmington; a daughter, Mrs. Lynn
B. Lieseke of Wilmington; five
sisters, Mrs. Joe R. (Bonnie) Craft of
