A Columbus County man received
a suspended prison sentence last
week after he admitted to a knife
assault last month at Ocean Isle
Beach.
Russell Clark Smith .IS r.f Rnnfp R
Whiteville, pleaded guilty Aug. 9 in
Brunswick County District Criminal
Court to assault with a deadly
weapon and injury to personal property,
according to the Brunswick
County Clerk of Court's office.
Court records state that the assault
occurred July 15 near the Ocean Isle
Beach Pier, when Smith assaulted
Luther Wayne Hester Jr. of Sunset

Smith, armed with a six-inch boot
knife, attempted to stab Hester

Hester.
Smith also was ordered to stay
away from the Ocean Isle Beach Pier
and to enroll in a mental health

substances and must not carry
deadly weapons ci: his own property.
