Talk To View Abuse From A Historical Siant Paula Dcvinc, a sociology and psychology insirucior ai Brunswick Community College, will discuss child abuse Thursday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. as pan of the college's ongoing "brown bag" lecture series. The talk, "Are We Becoming More Humane? ? A Historical Per spective of Child Abuse," will be presented in the teaching auditori um of the ALS building on campus. The public is invited and there is no charge. "I believe that our society treats children with more respect in recent years (since the 1960's) and that the good old days were not so good for children," says Ms. Devinc. She has been an advocate and volunteer concerned with child abuse and mental health issues for more than 15 years. She holds a master's dc grec in counseling from Jackson ville Stale University and has serv ed as a Parents Anonymous advisor and trainer in Alabama and West Virginia. Before joining the BCC faculty in 1984, she was employed as a day treatment coordinator and mental health educator in Elkins, W.Va., and in Anniston, ala. She also taught courses related to pyscholo gy and mental health at Gadsden State Junior College and Jackson ville State University. She has also worked in detention centers in the Anninston, Ala., area. Born at 12:28 a.m., she weighed seven pounds, eight ounces, and was 19 1/2 inches long. Lewis Michael L. and Anita Graham Lewis of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., have announced the birth of their third child, Kristian Michael Lewis, Jan. 10 at The Brunswick Hospital, Supply. Born at 3:45 a.m., the baby weighed seven pounds, 14 ounces. The child has two sisters, Pricilla Dcvone Lewis, 2; and Aloria Jane Lewis, 11 months. Funds raised during the Cystic Fibrosis Shape Up will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to help support ihe organization's research, treatment and education programs nationwide. Participants will raise money by getting pledges from friends, rela tives and neighbors for cach exer cise routine they complete during the event. All participants who raise $35 or more will receive a logo T shirt and sport socks. Cystic fibrosis is the number one genetic killer of children in Amer ica.
