Council Wiii 1 Volunteers from the Brunswick County Council on the Status of Women will be stationed outside county grocery stores Saturday, March 23, collecting food to be dis tributed to needy families by the Volunteer and Information Center. The group collected food valued at more than $6,000 through a simi lar drive during the Christmas sea son, with few shoppers choosing not to contribute. Council Chairperson Ida Mac Mintz said the need for the local food pantry continues. Baked Goods, Art Round Out Cook- Off Eleven church groups arc plan ning a giant holiday bake sale in conjunction with the Robert Ruark Foundation's second annual Chili Cook-Off, set March 30 in Franklin Square Park in downtown South port. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Paul Flucgel of Shallotte. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Vardell Hughes of Ash. The Rev. Charles Smith officiat ed the double ring ceremony. Music was provided by Betty Holland of Raleigh, keyboard, and Vernon Cox of Greenville, soloist. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a formal white satin gown. The gown featured a sabrina neckline decorated with scalloped Schiffli lace and lcg-o-multon sleeves enhanced with English net and Schiffli lace embroidered with pearls and sequins. The basque bodice was accented with embroi dered Schiffli lace beaded with pearls and sequins. The heart-shaped keyhole back featured draped strands of pearls. Her full skirt flowed into a semi-cathedral length train with lace cut-outs and edging. A matching halo of silk flowers, beaded lace and pearl "peps" held the double pouf and two-tiered fin gertip veil of illusion. She carried a cascading bouquet of mixed flowers. Mary Jon May of Greenville served as the bride's maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Lori McLaugh lin, Lisa Ivey and Michelle Mc Lean, all of Greenville. The attendants wore identical gowns of blue spruce embossed faille taffeta. The dresses featured a portrait neckline and three-quarter length puffed sleeves. The deep scoop back featured double assy metrical straps with bows at one side. A front side bow accented the basque bodice, which flowed into a full circular tea-length skirt. They carried bouquets of mixed flowers. The groom's father was his best man. Ushers were Stan Hughes of Raleigh, Edward Smith of Charlotte and Paul Hughes of South Carolina, all cousins of the groom. Following the ceremony a buffet luncheon reception was held at the North Carolina State University Faculty Club in Raleigh. The newlyweds will make their home in Greensboro, where the groom is employed by Cardinal Chemicals as a salesman and ware house manager. The groom is a graduate of N.C. State University with a bachelor's degree in agronomy.
