Calvary improved to 7-0, while Shalloue First fell to 6-1 and into a sccond-place tie with Ocean View Baptist Ocean View was a 33-30 winner over Emanual Outreach last Friday. In other action Friday night, Zion Baptist improved to 5-2 with a 50 49 victory over Letties Grove. Camp Methodist beat Shallotte Presby terian 42-32 and Jennies Branch routed Mount Olive 55-36. Second place on the front nine went to the foursome of Joan Llewellyn, Marge Bach, Nancy Williams and Jem Moore with net 64. Golfers competed on the Byrd course. Two teams tied for first place on the back nine. Lois Curry. Gaylc Schadle, Nancy Williams and Mary Morris shot 67 to tic Dinah Gore, Pat Gardner, Jill Wilson and Marie Munn. Brierwood Men Joe Rci'.cr, Paul Keclcy, Norm Soucic and Matt Monaghan fired an even-par 144 to win the Brierwood Men's Golf Association tournament last Thursday. Teams counted the low gross and low net balls on each hole. Finishing second with 150 was the foursome of Don Redding, Jim Roach, A1 Hierman and Gene Cordisco. On Jan. 25, the team of John Martocci, Jerry Lula and Bill Pingo won the Bricrwood two best ball event with a 130. They used a blind draw for their fourth score. Also using a blind draw and fin ishing second was the team of Dave Harper, John Cowic and Gene Cordisco. They fired a 12-under-par 132. Two teams tied for third. Bill Goldsberry, Joe Rciter, Emile Vry daghs and Jerry Smith shot 133 to tic Don Raiding, Jim Crosby and Bob Warchcim. Carolina Shores Ladies Joan Sullivan, Alice Abbcnc, May Robertson anil Kathy Doming (blind draw) shot 143 to win the Carolina Shores Ladies Golf Asso ciation tournament last Thursday. Teams counted the two best nets of the foursome. Finishing three shots back in second place was the team of Ginnic Derrickson, Barb Brooks. Kathy Doming and Jane Mahnckc. Placing third with a 147 was the foursome of Sue Greincr, Gerry Burdick, Jackie Distler and Helen Marsh. Betty Goodwin and Derrick son tied for low pints with 30 each. Karate Students Win Trophies Several Brunswick County youngsters received tro phies at the 18th Annual Johnson and Leon Open Karate Championship held Jan. 16 in Spring lake. Trophy-winners included Ricky Robinson, who placed second in fighting in the white belt division lor ages six and seven. Cody Galloway and Ben Brock re ceived trophies for participation. In the white belt division for eight- and nine-year olds, Jimi Gaddy placed fourth in fighting. Marty Ramsey, Jonathan Osborne and Jordan Galloway re ceived participation trophies. Jonathan Carlisle placcd first in fighting in the white belt division for ages 14 to 16. Tim McLcod finished third and Robert Johnston was fourth. In the yellow belt division for ages eight and nine, Gerald Brock placed fourth in fighting and fourth in ka ta. Ryan Carlylc placed third in fighting in the 10-11 yellow belt division. Eddie Brock also took third in fighting and finished eighth in kata. All of the youths are students at David's School of Martial Arts near Holdcn Beach. BOWLING ROUNDUP Vealey Leads Belles Leaque Carol Vcalcy posted high games of 188 and 191, a 523 scratch series and 646 handicap series in the Brunswick Dclics League last Wednesday at Brunswick County Bowling Center in Shallotte. Other top finishers included Ruth Laffon with 177 and 180 high games, a 500 scratch scries and 656 handicap series, and Margaret God frey with a 179 game, 485 scratch series and 647 handicap series. Pat Pursley rolled a 176 game and 642 handicap scries. Other high game rollers were Ginny Nugent with 185, Marian Monaghan with 178 and Elkc Grabowski with 175. Calabash Veterans The leant of Dick Mcc, Clyde Schramm, Bill Johnson and Bill Flynn fired a 187 to win the Cala bash Veterans Golf Association tournament last Friday at Eastport. Teams counted the three low net balls on each hole. Finishing second with 194 was the team of Dick Ringer, Bob Greenwood and J J. Quigley. They used a blind draw for their fourth score.
