Brierv/ood Men's Association Hold Senior/Super Senior Tournament vivHici> uimpcicu ior low gross and low net honors in three age groups last Saturday when the Rrierwood Men's Golf Association held its senior/super senior tourna ment. In the 50-59 age group. Bill Shoemaker had the low gross of 74 and Jim Roach posted the low net round of 66. For golfers age 60-69, Hollen Groff had the low gross of 79. Paul Dunfcc placed second with 83 and Kemp Causey and John TWomey tied for third with scores of 89. Hugh McCullough shot net 63 to lead the field in the 60-69 age group. Runncrs-up included Graham Justice with 70 and Odie Johnson with 72. Marlen McWilliams shot gross 80 and Charlie Stransky fired net 69 to lead the 70-and-over age group, finishing second were Rov Havenga with eross 84 and lid Aston with net 73. In men's association play last Thursday, the team of Jim Bryant, Norm Solicie, Mike Soucie and Jim Kellcher shot 119 to win a two best net ball tournament. Finishing two shots back in sec ond place was the team of Bill Allen, Bernie Gruzlewski, Bob Allwein and Jim Crosby. Paul Dun fee. Jerry Smith and John Cowie took third with 122. Last Monday, the team of Jerry Lula, Jerry Smith, Hank Culp and Jim Roach shot 113 to win a two best ball tournament. Finishing second with 116 was the team of John Martocci, Bill Goldsberry. Emile Vrydaghs and a blind draw. Joe Reitcr, Norm Sou cie. Mike Soucie and a blind draw took third with 119. Sea Trail Men Jim Jones finished with 44 points to win the first flight in the Sea Trail Men's Golf Association tournament last Tuesday on the Byrd course. Finishing second, also with 44 points, was Stan Risch. Other top scorers were Ron Schadle with 41 and Don Lowensten and Byron Peterson with 40 each. Ed Hughes won the second flight with 43 points. He was followed by Jim Femald with 41 and Joe Hasson and Ed Bye with 40 apiece. Third flight winners included Dick Zinser with 45 points, John Gregory with 41 and Bill Zanzalari with 40. lied for fourth place with 39 points each were Frank Seaboldt, Pete Crockett and Bill Morris. Top finishers in the fourth flight were Howard Van Dusen with 48 points, Dale Stanton with 44, Jim Carpenter with 43 and Paul Price with 42. Brierwood Ninettes Marion Allen shot net 22 to win the Brierwood Ninettes tournament last Friday. Golfers counted scores on holes starting with the letters T, E. N and S. Runners-up were Judy Durham with 23 and Kathv Stoll with 24. Allen and Carol Soucie tied for low putts with 17 apiece. Making pars were Allen at the third hole. Stoll at the sixth. Durham at the seventh and Marcia Kartsen at the ninth. Sea Trail Ladies Jan Riek shot net 68 and was the first flight's overall winner in the Sea Trail Indies Golf Association Nassau tournament played last Tues day on the Byrd course. Each team counted the two low net scores on each hole. Finishing second with 128 was the foursome of Vinnie Fitzgerald, Tom Harris, Joe Fremgen and Bob Fyock. John Ward, Leo Jarmusz, Hank Hettinger and Ed Dowling took third with 129. Placing fourth with 132 were Bill Teschler, Bob Remais, Joe Gainer and Bill Rice. Carolina Shores Ladies A match of cards was needed to the determine the winning team in the Carolina Shores Indies Golf Association tournament last Thurs day at Ocean Isle Beach Golf Course. First place went to the foursome of Mary Johnson, Gerry Burdick (blind draw). Ruby Vanderburg and Flo Warren with a score of 145. Teams counted one low net score and one low gross score on each hole. Finishing second, also with 145, was the team of Lyi n Jcrr, Sue Greiner, Ducky Rice and Dot Trostle. Ann Hierman made birdie at the 15th hole and had low putts for the day with 27. She also had the overall low gross with 89. Blanche Johnson had a chip-in at the 12th hole. Making birdie were Pat Soule at the Fifth and Lynn Jcrr at the 17th. Lockwood Shootout Fred Naimicr and Leo Welez fin ished at plus 13'A to win the shootout last Wednesday at I^ockwood Golf Links. Joe Akels' team placed second at plus 8'A. The team of Chris Gado mski and Bill Seip finished at plus 8 and tied for third place with Steve Free. Calabash Veterans The team of Ed Jackson, Jack Brooks, Don Kelly and Bob Maloy finished with five points to win the Calabash Veterans Golf Association tournament last Friday at Brier wood. Golfers used the Stablcford points team format. Finishing second with one point was the foursome of Bob Erbach, John Marcotte, Tom Mc Donald and Hal Riebesehl. Francis Chancier, Dave Earlc, Iggy Puleo and Jerry Russ took third with minus seven points. The Calabash Veterans will play this Friday at Olde Fort in Win *iabow. Show time is 8 a.m. Calabash Veterans Donate To Scouts The Calabash Veterans Golf As sociation recently donated $200 to the Boy Scouts of America to help feed scouts during their upcoming jamboree at Vereen Park in Little River. S.C. 'Ilie golf group also plans to do nate $1(X) to send a Shallotte youth, James Wemyss, to the Myrtle Beach Recreation Department's one-week golf school for kids ages 8-14. The golf school provides profes sional lessons, a starter set of golf clubs, hat and shirt. Two groups of 25 students will take the classes this summer.
