Bollinger Wins Top Flight In Calabash Veterans Tourney Larry Bollinger finished wilh 5 points to win the top flight in the Calabash Veterans Golf Association tournament last Friday at Eagles Nest. Runners-up in the A Flight in cluded Bob Christian wilh 0 points, Lee Rothertorth with minus 1 and Ed Jackson and Joe Brust with mi nus 2. B Flight winners were Chuck Wilson with 5 points. Ruth's Renegades Members of Ruth's Renegades participated in a crossover tourna ment last Thursday at Bay Tree and Brierwood golf courses. The top finisher al Bay Tree was Dot McAleer on a three-way match of cards with net 28.5. Martha Lovatv was second and Mary Elliott placed third. At Brierwood. Alice Struck led the way wilh net 19.5. Marie Broekstra look second with 29.5, and Jenny Ward was third with 30.5. Broekstra had a birdie al ihc 1 0th hole, and Thelma Speidel chipped in at the 1 Ith. Brierwood Men The team of Dave Harper, Jim Crosby and Dick Anzelone shot 187 to win the Brierwood Men's Golf Association lournament last Thurs day. Teams counted the three best balls on par 4 and par 5 holes and the two best balls on par 3s. The winners finished 17 under par and used a blind draw for their fourth score. Finishing second at 15-under-par 189 was the foursome of Don Redding. Joe Disti. Bcrnic Gruz lewski and Bob Sterner. On Aug. 8, two learns tied for first place in the Brierwood men's event. Each group counted the three low scores on par 3s and 4s and the two low scores on par 5s. Charlie Stransky. Don Redding, led Narazinski and Bill Pingo shot 1 2-under-par 1 84 to tie the foursome of Jack Causer. Odie Johnson, Andy Baldwin Out, Bishop In As Scorpion Grid Coach Garry Bishop has taken over as the head football coach at North Brunswick High School following the resignation of Gary Baldwin. Baldwin, the head football coach since 1990. stepped down last week but will continue to serve as the school's athletic director. The Scorpions were 0-10 last sea son and have lost 19 consecutive games, the second-longest losing streak in the state. "I just felt like a change may do them some good." Baldwin said Tuesday. "I just seemed to have a problem getting the kids out here and maybe a change will help." Bishop was serving as an assistant football coach under Baldwin. Bishop coached the boys' varsity basketball team and girls' track team last year He has previously served as North's junior varsity basketball coach. "Garry 's been with me the whole time as an assistant. He'll do a good job with them," Baldwin said. In three seasons, the Scorpions were 1-29 under Baldwin. North Brunswick did not field a varsity football te?m in 1992 because school officials didn't think there were there were enough upperclass men to be competitive North Brunswick will battle the Richlands Wildcats in a scrimmage game Thursday at 6:30 p.m at Scorpion Field. Ruby Vanderburg and Ducky Rice (blind draw) shot 139 to win the Carolina Shores Ladies Golf Association "Beat The Pro" tourna ment last Thursday Teams counted two net scores on par 4s and 5s and three scores on par 3s. Finishing one stroke back in sec ond place was the team of Pat O'Neill. Betty Kibblehouse. Kathy Deming and Ducky Rice. Third place went to Bob Flack. Marge Dale, Emily Sharp and Alice Abbene with 1 42. The second hole was the blind hole chosen for the pro's gross score versus the ladies' net score. Vazquez had low putts with 28 and also chipped in at the 17th hole. Also making chip-ins were Lill Haupt at the ninth and Gerry Burdick at the 15th.
