Solicited by Johnson from among friends and former classmates in the name of the Brunswick County Youth Foundation, the money is to be used to purchase materials by and about African-Americans for the li brary collection. Johnson doesn't plan to stop with this gift. "This was our first try," he said. "After this I hope it will be easier." Temple-Inland will continue matching larger gifts, but at a lower ratio, up to $6,000 per year, he said, a good incentive to try to raise more funds for worthwhile causes. He and his supporters want young blacks to know that they have choic es about who and what they become.
