Damn and Tonuia (Jones) John
son of Bolivia have announced the
birth of a son, Dimitri Leon John
son, at 5:20 p.m. Oct. 14 at New
Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces
and was 20 inches long. He joins a
sister. Tiara Lavonne.

Pruitt Makes
Eagle Scout
i miu Fruitt, 1 7, of Supply was be
stowed the rank of Eagic Scout and
received his God and Country award
in an Oct. 1 ceremony at Brunswick
Islands Baptist Church.
He is the son of Dallas and
Melodee Pruitt of Supply, formerly
of Winston-Salem. His Scoutmaster
is Butch Harrison.
He was a Cub Scout for three
years and a Scout for eight years and
belongs to the Order of the Arrow
Wahissa 118. He is a senior patrol
leader and belongs to the National
Honor Society.
Pruitt is a member of Coastline
Volunteer Rescue Squad and will be
certiried as an emergency medical
technician on Oct. 24. He is seeking
to enter the Coast Guard Academy
next year and plans to become a
physician assistant.

Eastern Star
Plans Annual
Oct. Banquet
Order of the Eastern Star, 19th
District PHH-NCJ, will hold its third
annual banquet Saturday, Oct. 29, at
7 p.m. at the Winnabow Recreation
Park on U.S. 17.
Sister Jackie Williams of the
Queen Esther Chapter will deliver
the address. A meal and door prizes
will follow.
Donation of $5 is requested.

Michael Royal, director of the
Small Business Center at Brunswick
Community College, addressed the
South Brunswick Islands Rotary
Club at a recent breakfast meeting.
He explained how the center
helps entrepreneurs, new businesses
and established small businesses in
the area and outlined fall seminars
being conducted by the center.

Edna Duncan of Ash is the baby's

the birth of a son, Stephen Marc
Fleming III, at 8:33 a.m. Oct. 14 at
The Brunswick Hospital.
He weighed 6 pounds, 7 ounces,
and was 19^ inches long and is the
brother of Stacey Sprouse.

Smokey The Bear Plans
Two Local Appearances
Smokey The Bear will be meet
ing children and handing out fire
prevention materials during two lo
cal appearances planned for the next
two weekends.
Smokey will visit the Wal-Mart
in Shallotte this Saturday, Oct. 22,
from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. He will
have balloons and handouts for the
kids.
The Brunswick County office of
the N.C. Forest Service will display
firefighting equipment at Wal-Mart.
Rangers will be on hand to answer
questions about outdoor fire safety.
Smokey, who is celebrating his
50th year of fire prevention work,
also will be at the N.C. Festival By
The Sea next weekend, Oct. 29 and
30, at Holden Beach.
He will be joined by a 40-foot
tall. mechanical, talking Smokey
The Bear. Local Forest Service
workers also will be at the festival.

Lions Collect Used Glasses,
Hearing Aids At Four Sites
The Shallotte Lions Club has
placed collection boxes for used
eyeglasses and hearing aids at four
sites in the area.
Boxes are at True Value Hard
ware Store in Calabash. Ace Hard
ware on Holden Beach Road, in
front of Wal-Mart in Shallotte and in
the cafeteria of the Brunswick
County Government Complex in
Bolivia. They were constructed by
Lion Pete Kopasz.
"Donations of glasses and hearing
aids to the Lions would be greatly
appreciated," said Marv Peters, club
spokesman.
"Used eyeglasses arc forwarded
to the N.C. Lions Foundation for
further processing, principally to be
sent to other countries for needy in

dividuals."
He said used hearing aids are re
furbished and distributed to people
who cannot afford to purchase them.
