Members meet / ??- V ? . . The Annual Members' 2 Meeting wai held ?*' Wednesday night at the ? Museum of the Albemarle. I financial and narrative , 1 reports were given and new p trustees and officers were ? ' elected. Harriet Hornthal, incum bent board chairman,' reported on recent develop ment of plans for the museum's future growth. Members were brought up to date on the regional ' museum concept, which the board recently voted to i pursue. ?' : Members were informed ? that the N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh has plans to increase its ac cessibility by developing '-' branch museums in the 4 , east and west. Board members have spent the ' ' last several months looking into the pros and cons of the Museum of the Albemarle becoming the eastern * ' branch of the N.C. Museum - of History, according to j Mrs. Hornthal. After the board agreed ' , late in 1977 that the regional concept would be a positive *?; . birection for future growth, ? 1 1 steps were taken to draft a ;? < bill to be presented tp the 1979 General Assembly. Mrs. Hornthal then opened I ? the floor to any member who had queations. DarU Matthews, chair man of the nominating committee, then presented a slate of 10 new trustees which will serve for three year term. The new trustees included: Jeanne Mast, Treva Pendleton, Bobbi Redding, Jerome Phees, Cynthia Creekmore, Dr. Jerry Pickrel, Francis Monds, Mary White and Cliff Towe. . The new slate of officers included Avis Heather ington, chairman of the board; Betsey Pitman Overton, vice-chairman; Sarah Bunn, secretary and Terry Daniels, treasurer. Mrs. Heatherington, Hertford, has been invloved in museum Trustees for the Historical Society of Early American Decorations, Inc. for nine years. She is presi dent of that organization in 1978. From 1971-77 she was editor of "The Decorator," the offical publication of the society. A native of Ver mont, has lived in Washington D.C. for 12 years and in New York for 20 years. She has had an op portunity to do research in the major libraries of those cities, to use for material in "The Decorator." Mrs. Overton, a native of Ahoskie, if currently ? teacher in the Elisabeth City-Pasquotank Public School System . She is a graduate of the University of N.C. at Greensboro and did graduate work in Wake Forest's Historic Preserva tion and Museum Training program. She was employed with the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts, in Winston-Salem for three years before moving to Elizabeth City. The program was then turned back over to Mrs. Hornthal who thanked those trustees that were rotating off the board this year. * The Louis O'rr exhibition of N.C. Etchings will be at the museum from March 2-23. Orr, 1879-1966, was known world wide for his architectural sketches, which give an accurate hsitorical view of North Carolina in the late 19th century. A white elephant sale will be held at the museum on April 1. Proceeds ,will benefit the museum. The museum's annual spring house tour, this year in Pasquotank County, has been scheduled for April 26. BPW Club Thursday night. ^ Mrs. Johnson, who is from Camden, reviewed the many functions and ad vantages of the Foundation since its formation in 1956. She illustrated her talk with a film which explained the Career Awareness project which deals with problems of working women. Scholar ships are available to women over 25 who wish to pursue another career, or < take college courses to fur ther their own education in their jobs. She pointed out how many different women had befcn able to take ad vantages of higher training because of the Foundation scholarships. Mrs. Bonnie White, presi dent, welcomed Mrs. Hilda Harrell as a new club member. Mrs. Harrell is employed at Peoples Bank and Trust Co. She and her husband, Bruce, reside on Saunders St. Duriog the business meeting, plans were discussed for Heart Sunday being held in Hertford on Feb. 26, for the District Meeting which the local club will host on April 30 and the selection of the club's Young Careeist. Mrs. Anne Young was hostess for the meeting. CONTROL ODORS Onion odors can be con trolled if you cook them un covered in a large amount of boiling, salted water.
