Beaman presides in District Court session Judge Grafton Beam an presided at the Perquimans County District Court on Wednesday and heard the following cases: Elisabeth Brooks Bowe, charged with shoplifting, received a six months sentence suspended for three years a fine of $75 and cost, was told to remain on good behavior, and to re main off the premises of Colonial Stores for term of suspended sentence; Isaac Elijah Turner, charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating , beverage, was given a 60 day sentence suspended for two years, a fine of $115 and cost, was ordered to sur render his driver's license to the Clerk of Superior Court, and was ordered not to operate a motor vehicle for 12 months except as allowed by limited driving privilege; Catherine warn cotton, charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating beverage, received a 60-day sentence suspended for two years, a fine of $125 and cost, was ordered to sur render her driver's license to the Clerk of Superior Court, asd was told not to operate a motor vehicle for 12 months except as allowed by limited driving privilege; Curtis L. Perry was found guilty of driving under the influence of intoxicating beverage and was given a ?O-day sentence suspended for two years, a fine of 1123 and coot, and was ordered to surrender his New Jersey driver's license to Clerk of Superior Court, and was told not to operate a motor vehicle in North Carolina for 12 months; Ricky Clsy Boyee received a 60-day sentence suspended for two years a fine of $100 and cost, was told to surrender his driver's license to Clerk of Superior Court for 12 months and not to operate a motor vehicle in North Carolina; Percy Coston, charged with shoplifting, was given a six months sentence suspended for three yesrs, a fine of $50 and cost super vised probation for 12 months, and told to remain on good behavior and stay off premises of Colonial Stores for term of suspended sentence; John Andrew Dillman, charged with driving under the influence of intoxi cating beverage and not having any operator's license, was given 60-day sentence suspended for two years, a fine of $125 and cost, was ordered to sur render his driver's license to Clerk of Superior Court. A copy of the judgment will be sent to the Pennsylvania Department of Motor Vehicles; Lee Earnest Warren was found not guilty of driving under the influence of intoxicating beverage (2nd) and failure to atop at the scene of accident; Arrie Lee Wilaon wai found guilty of iaaault. and received a 10 day sentence suspended for two years with conditions ? pay cost; present himself to the Albemarle Mental Health Clinic within five days; and not consume any alcoholic beverage unless prescribed by physician. A certified copy of judgment will be sent to defendant and Men tal Health Clinic; Johnny Wilbert Hunter was found guilty of failure to support family and was given a sentence of 120 days in jail suspended for three years, told to pay cost and was ordered to begin Feb. 24 to pay 120 per week to the office of Clerk of Superior Court for benefit of child ' payments to be made to Esther Hunter; Prayer for judgment was continued upon conditions to June 7 in the case of L.E. (Tiny) Pierce, charged with assault. The defendant was ordered to pay cost and was told to remain on good general behavior with leave to State to move for judg ment upon good cause shown; Thomas Benjamin Rid dick, charged with driving under the influence of intox icating beverage- (4th), received an 18-month sentence to be served in the North Carolina Department of Corrections with 10-day sentence active in Albemarle District Jail. The remainder of sentence suspended for four "/ears with defendant placed on active probation for four years, a fine of $100 and cost, ordered to surrender his driver's license to Clerk of Superior Court, not to operate a motor vehicle un til duly licensed, report to Mental Health Clinic within 10 days. After release from incarceration the defendant must not consume any alcoholic beverage for 12 months unless prescribed by physician. Appeal was noted; r Traffic violations snd judgments are as follows; Claude Leroy Emory Jr., improper passing, J10 and cost; Thomas Preston Billups, improper parking, cost; Carlton James, insuf ficient headlights, cost; Worth Ward Dale Jr.. reckless driving, $35 and cost; Walter Clayton Mallory, exceeding safe speed, cost; Linda Mizelle Pennington, exceeding safe speed, cost; Thurman Whedbee, speeding, $15 and cost; David Lee Hurdle, driving at greater speed than reasonable and pru dent, $20 and cost; Diana Lynn Pugh, speeding, $10 and cost; and Glen McCoy Lightfoot, speeding, $20 and cost. Police report recent activity The Hertford Police Department releases the following report of recent activity: ARRESTS Lula Alphonso Jones of Rt. 1, Box 394, Hertford was arrested Feb. 17 by Patrolman M.G. Harring ton and charged with driv ing under the influence of intoxicating beverage. The arrest was made on King Street in Hertford. Trial date is March 1 in District Court. CRIMINAL SUMMONS Linda Brinson of Apt. 130, Wynne Fork Court, Hert ford was charged with larceny Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. by Chief Marshall Merritt. Trial date is March 1 in District Court. CITATIONS Loretta Babb Collins of P.O. Box 81, Winfall, was charged with driving left of the center line at 11:45 p.m. on Feb. 16 by Patrolman Harrington. Trial date is March 1 in District Court. Norman L. Barclift Jr. of Rt. 2, Box 558, Elizabeth City was charged by Patrolman Harrington with improper passing on Feb. 16 at 8:30 p.m. Trial date is March 15 in District Court. Melton H. Bryant of Rt. 1, Box 401, Belvidere was charged with speeding 47 mph in a 35 mph zone by Patrolman Harrington on Feb. 16 at 4:55 p.m. Trial date is March 1 in District Court. Beverly Mallory of Rt. 4, Box 197, Hertford was charged by Patrolman Har rington with failing to com ply with restriction on Feb. 17 at 9 p.m. Trial date is March 1 in District Court. Sherrod Gene Hurdle of Rt. 1, Box 272, Belvidere Art Show a Sale is planned The Pasquotank Arts Council will hold its annual Art Show and Sale at Southgate Mall in Elizabeth City from April 5 through April 8. The Art Show and Sale is open to all artists and photographers 18 years of age and older. Only original works may be entered. An entry fee of $5 per A-frame or table will be charged. There will be a limit of two A-frames per artist. Registration will be closed by March 11 or earlier if all spaces have been reserved before that time. Cash prizes to be awarded will be Best-in Show $150, Runner-Up Best-in-Show $100, and Most Outstanding Pas quotank Artist $50. Ribbons will also be awarded. There will have to be five artists competing in each media to be eligible for judging. Trial date is March 1 in District Court. * LOCAL MAN APPOINTED - Norfolk Carolina Telephone Company has appointed James T. Rennie as General Supervisor ? Coin Telephones. He will be responsible (or the 480 pay telephones operated by the company in North Carolina and Virginia. Rennie began with the company in 1967 and has served as a technician in the Elisabeth City and Edenton Central Offices. Rennie resides in Hertford with his wife, the former Caroljrn White, and their two children, Ernest and Lisa. OnUNC Dean's List CHAPEL HILL - Two students from Perquimans County have been named to the 1977 fall semester dean's list at the University of North Carolina at Chapef Hill. Receiving the academic honor are Winston Earl Lane III, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Winston E. Lane Jr. of Rt. 1, Hertford; and Eva Ruth Ward, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Jarvis Ward of Church St., Hertford.
