Mrs. Lona McGill Feted At Parties Mrs. Lona McGill celebrated her 82nd birthday anniversary Tuesday and was honored Mon day at a luncheon here and Tubs day on her birthday at a luncheon In Shelby. The Monday luncheon was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John L. McGill here to compliment the guest-of-honor, and other friends and out-of-town guests attended. Out-of-town guests at the lun cheon Monday were Mrs. Char les M. May of Baltimore, Md... who is visiting her daughter, Mrs. P. G. Padgett here, Mrs. Wright, Clinton. N. C., and Mrs. J. W. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kennedy en tertalned at a dinner at their home In Shelby Tuesday evening complimenting Mrs. McGill. The party was planned by members of the family and only members of the immediate family attended. Mrs. McGill wore a two-piece blue suit with pink accessories and a shoulder corsage of pink carnations. A birthday cake formed thfe centerpiece for the refreshment table, which was overlaid with a maderla cutwork cloth. Pink car nations were scattered on the cloth, and candelabra holding pink tapers decorated the buffet Covers were laid for the hono-' ree, her children and three grand children. A turkey dinner with accessories was served. Guests present included Mr. and Mrs. Leroy McGill of Gas tonia, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Mc Gill, Mr. and Mrs. John L Mc Gill, and Mr. and Mrs, John Gam ble. all of Kings Mountain, Mrs. McGill, the hosts, and their chil dren, Paul Kennedy, Jr., Johnny Kennedy, and Jane Kenrfedy. The honoree was the recipient of many nice and useful gifts. Tuesday Meeting Held Of Baptist Church Group Cornelia Leavell circle mem bers of First Baptist church held their regular meeting Tuesday night with Mrs. Gus Petty as hostess. Mrs. Howard Ware, program chairman for the month, present ed the program entitled, "For eign Students in the United States"; Nine members attended the meeting. Miss Llthia Lankford, circle chairman, called the business part of the meeting to order and presided over the business ses sion. P. Price as hostess. Thirty members of the class attended the meeting. Mrs. Starr Huffstetler, class president, call ed the meeting to order and "pre sided over the business session. A group hymn 'Til Go Where You Want Me To Go" opened the program. Members sang "Open My Eyes" before a program pre sented by Miss Cornelia Gantt, Program topic discussions were "The Passing of the Old Year ? Beginning of the New" and "The Kingdom of God". Prayer was offered. During the social hour, mem bers were Invited Into the din ing room of the home and en Joyed a chicken dinner with ac cessories. The meal was served buffet style. Mrs. Price, the hostess, pre sented her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Alfred Price, to the group, and members of the class gave sur mise shower gifts to the honoree. Carpenter of Kings Mountain. Miss Dunbar is a graduate of St. Catherine's School, Richmond, Va., and Vassar college of ffew York City , Lieut. Carpenter, o chaplain in the U. 8. Army, i? stationed at Camp Gordon, Ga. He 4a a graduate of Shelby high school, Wofford college, and completed three years of graduate work in the School of Religion at Duke University. He has also done graduate study at Columbia University and General Theological Seminary in New York City. Local DAR Chapter Sets Monday Program Members of the Colonel Frede rick Hamrlck Chapter, Daughters of thte American Revolution, will present a 15 minute discussion of the proposed Brlcker-Amerlcan Bar Association Amendment over Pariln Station WKMT Monday, January 18. The radio discussion will be broadcast at 10 o'clock Monday morning. This Amendment of the Con stitution, proposed to safe-guard the supremacy of the Constitu tion of thte United States over treaties, will be voted on by Con gress during the current session. All Americans who are con cerned with the preservation of the freedoms they now enjoy should understand the need for this Amendment, a member of the local DAR chapter said Wed nesday In making the announce ment. Monday's broadcast will be the fourth in a series of patriotic programs presented over the lo cal radio station by thte DAR chapter here. Pfc. William Roper, Jr., of Charleston, S.
