Elizabeth Stewart, Editor Miss Norma Lee Sipes Gives Wedding Plans Miss Norma Lee Sipes, daugh. ter of Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Sipes, has completed plans for her mar riage to Marvin Atkinson, of Charlotte, formerly of Kings Mountain, son of Mrs. Leona At kinson, and announces them this week. The wedding will take place Sunday afternoon at four o’clock in First Baptist church. Officiating ministers will be Rev. H Gordon Weekly, Jr. of Charlotte, former pastor of the bride-elect and brother-in-law of Mr. Atkinson and Rev. J. J. Thorn burg, brother-in-law of Miss Sipes. Wedding music wil be presented by Melvin Hipps, of Tryon, orga nist, and Miss Mary Graham, of Greenville, S. C. vocalist. Grier Franklin Sipes will give his daughter in marriage, and Herman Atkinson, of Ypsilanti, Michigan, will be best man for his nephew. Mrs. Jerry Wilson will be her sister’s matron of honor, and bridesmaids will include Mrs. Gene Dye, of Kings Mountain, and Miss Nancy Calhoun,-of Shel by, cousins of the bride-elect. Becky Dixon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Dixon, will be flower girl. Ushers will include Bill Siptes, brother of the bride-elect, and Genie Dye, both of Kings Moun tain. Mr. and Mrs. B. O Weaver will entertain at their home on Gold st., Saturday evening at an aftter rehearsal party for Miss Sipes and Mr. 4tkinson. The couple will receivle wedding guests in the church vestibule following the ceremony. Miss baran Jackson Gives Wedding Plans Miss Sarah Elizabeth Jackson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomp. son Wood Jackson, has completed plans for her marriage to Edwin Bilean Smith, son of Mrs. Hubert D. Smith, of Black Mountain, and the late Mr. Smith, and announ ces them this week. The wedding will take place Saturday afternoon at four o’ clock in First Presbyterian church. Rev. Patrick, pastor of the church, will officiate at the double ring ceremony. Wedding music will be present ed by Miss Barbara Ann Gran tham, of Kings Mountain and Beckley, West Va., organist. The bride-elect’s father will give her in marriage and Robert V. Smith, of Old Fort, brother of Mr. Smith, will be best man. Miss Mildred Jackson, of Kings Mountain, will be her sister’s maid of honor, and Miss Marga ret Ann Jackson, sister of the bride-elfect will be bridesmaid. Ushers wil linclude Thomas K. Spence and Donald Woods, both of Montreat, N. C. Mrs. Howard Jackson is en tertaining Thursday evening at a dinner party at Kings Mountain Country club for Miss Jackson, and Miss Barbara Ann Grantham is entertaining at the home of hler parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Grantham, at a luncheon Friday morning. The couple will deceive wed ding guests in the church vesti bul following the ceremony. Mrs. Price Hostess | | To Methodist Class The Friendship class of Grace Methodist church held its regular meeting Tuesday night at the home of Mrs. L. P. Price, class teacher. Mrs. Emmett Ross had the de votional and was assisted in pre senting a program on “The Chris tian Home” by Mrs. Clyde Fite and Mrs. Andy Huffstetler. The group sang two hymns, “Living for Jesus” and “Just When I Need Him Most.” Mrs. Frank Ballard, class pre sident, conducted the business meeting, and Mrs. George Ken ndy invited the class to meet at her home in September. The hostess served a salad course with sandwiches, potato chips, cookies, and cold drinks to the 13 members who attended Macedonia WMU Held Meeting Tuesday The Woman’s Missionary soc iety of Macedonia Baptist church held its regular meeting Tuesday night at the church. Mrs. M. B. Martin conducted the opening devotional and offer ed prayer, and Mrs. Paul Owens, program chairman, was assisted in presenting the program by Miss Dutch Cloninger, Mrs. O. T. Gunnells, Mrs. Lillian Greene, ' and Mrs. Minnie Denny. Mrs. Owens, vice-president, con ducted the business meeting in the absence of Mrs. T. A. Line berger, president. Rev. and Mrs. Lineberger are vacationing in Washington, D. C., with relatives. Miss Cloninger offered the benediction. Methodist Circle 8 Held Meeting Monday Circle 8 of Central Methodist church held its regular meeting Monday night at the home of Mrs. Delbert Dixon. Eleven cir cle members attended. Mrs. Dixon, circle chairman, conducted the business session af ter the devotional by Mrs. Bax ter Payseur and th program by Mrs. Carl Lomgan. The hostess served refresh ments during the social hour. Bridge prizes went to Mrs. Bill Fulton, who received high score award, and to Mrs. Claude Ham bright, who won stecond-high a ward. Miss Moss was assisted in serving a dessert course to 16 guiests by her mother, Mrs. George Moss, and her aunt, Mrs. H. T. Fulton, of Wartrace, Term. First Baptist Group Held Supper Meeting The Young Married Couples department of First Baptist church met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Pruitt Tues day evening for a hot dog supper in the Pruitt’s 'backyard. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Clavon Kelly and son, Scott, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Austin, Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Miss Plonk Honored At Luncheon Thursday Mrs. J. H. Patterson entertain 3d last Thursday at her home on Parkier street at a luncheon complimenting Miss Mary Rachel Plonk, bride-elect. The wedding of Miss Plonk and Tim Gladden took place Sunday in St. Matthew’s Lutheran church here. A three - course luncheon was served to bight guests from dec orated luncheon . tables. Attend ing were Miss Plonk, her mother Mrs. R. L. Plonk, Miss Martha Plonk, Miss Nancy Plonk, Mrs. William Lawrence Plonk, Mrs. John W, Gladden, and Mrs. Mar tion Harmon, all of Kings Moun tain, and Mrs. M. C. Falls, Jr., of Baltimore, Md., who was here especially to attend the Gladden Plonk wedding. A color note of yellow was ob served in the decorations used throughout the Patterson home. Couple- !s Honored At Rehearsal Party Miss Janet Paige and Ray Go forth, whose wedding took place Sunday afternoon in Shelby, were honored Saturday (evening follow ing their wedding rehearsal at a cakecutting at Cleveland Cloth Mill Woman’s clubhouse. Hosts for the event were Mr. and Mrs. Foy Paige, parents of Miss Paige. Traditional bridal colors of green and white were observed in the decorations. The three-tier pale green wedding cake served as the centerpiece for the refresh ment table. Pale green tapers in silver candelabras, ivy, and ar rangements of white daisies com pleted room decoration. Mrs. Marvin (Bucky) Hardin, of Grover and Shelby, and Mrs. Betty Jo Putnam, sister of the bride-elect, cut and served the cake, and Mrs. Robert Gaskey and Miss Martha Walker, both of Shelby, served punch. Other bridesmaids and honorary -attep dants in the wedding assisted in receiving and entertaining. Guests included the wedding party, members of the two fami lies, and invited guests. Miss Janet Paige Married Sunday To Ray Goforth In Church Ceremony Miss Janet Paige, daughter of | Mr. and Mrs. F. F. Paige of Shel by, and Ray Conrad Goforth, son of Mr, and Mrs Preston Goforth of Grover, were married Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock in Shel by’s Eastside Baptist church. The Rev. E. B. Hicks, pastor, officiated at the double-ring cere mony. Miss Lathelma Towery, organist, and Mrs. Grady Walker, vocalist presented a program of wedding music. Given in marriage by her fath er, thie bride wore a gown of white lace and satin with yoke and long sleeves of lace and bo dice and long, full skirt of satin, which extended into a chapel length train. Her fingertip illu sion veil was attached to a Juliet cap of lace and satin, and she car ried a white Bible topped with Starlight roses and satin stream ers. Mrs. Betty Jo Putnam was her sister’s matron of honor, and bridesmaids were Miss Diana Paige, sister of the bride, Miss Sonya Calhoun, and Miss Martha Walker, all of Shelby. Attendants wore waltz-length dresses of seafoam green, em broidered taffeta. Their matching headpieces were of jeweled leav es, and they wore white kid gloves and carried bouquets of Shasta daisies and seafoam green maline. Honorary attendants were Mrs. Scott Spradley, of Chapel Hill, Miss Judy Scruggs, of Lincolnton, Miss Theola Towery, of Spindale, Miss Patsy Noblett, of Shelby, Mrs. Max Callahan, and Mrs. Bill Cobb. Marvin L. Hardin, of Grover and Shelby, was best man for Mr, Goforth, and ushers were Cobia Goforth, brother of the groom, Loy Paige, Sam Wilson, Jr., Phil Gold, John Houser, Charles Harry |; 3rd., and Ellis Tate, of Grover. ; Mrs, Goforth was graduated j from Shelby high school and Ho- i j ward Business college where she ' was a member of Alpha Iota, honorary businss sorority. She { holds a secretarial position with 1 the Shelby law firm of Kennedy, 1 Mahoney, and Mull. Mr. Goforth was graduated ' fro Blacksburg, S. C. high school , and is a senior at the University of South Carolinam, Columbia, S C., where he is a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. They will reside in Shelby temporarily with the bride’s grandparents at 609 East Suttle street until Sep tember when Mr. Goforth re sumes his studies in Columbia. Mrs. Moses is the former Miss Joan Mauney, of Spindale. A color note of yellow, green, and white was observed in the decorations. Yellow snapdragons, garza chrysanthemums, and greenery was used as a center piece arrangement for the lunch eon table. Placecards were ceram ic baskets of flowers. Luncheon was served to thir teen guests. Mrs. Austin Bumgardner Methodist Circle Hostess Members of Circle 6 of Central Methodist church held their regular Monday night meeting at the home of Mrs. Austin Bum gardner. Thirteen members at tended. Mrs. Fred Pritchard had the devotional before the program. “Deaconess in the Country" ar ranged by Mrs. M. H. Biser, pro gram chairman. Hostesses for the September meeting will be Miss Winifred Fulton and Mrs. C. L. Fulton. Mrs. Bumgardner served re freshments during the social hour. Methodist Society Held Meeting Saturday The Woman’s Missionary Soci ety of Gold Street Wesleyan Me thodist church held its regular moiithly meeting on Saturday, August 11th, at the home of Mrs. Frances Biddix. The group sang, “Take Time To Be Holy,” and "Rescue the Perish ing.” The devotional thoughts from the 84th division of the Psalms were given by Mrs, Tracy Stewart, followed with prayer by Mrs. Joe Wheeler. During the business session, the i Plata of Work and Efficiency i Standard was read and discussed. Mrs. H. E. Smith gave the dele i gates’ report fi;om the annual | conference which was held at | Colfax, N. C., August 7th through 10th. The conference project for the year is the support of Miss ; Bobbie Suggs native North Caro ; liniali, now' on the field as a mis j sionary teacher in Puerto Rico.
