Thursday, August 19, 1965 Woman’s Democratic Club To Host 10th District Meeting ' ( if il« The Cleveland County Woman's Democratic Club be host for a 10th Con- wi gressional District meeting Sept. 8, and plans are well underway, Mrs. Warren Gamble, president of the organization said this week. Democratic women—and their husbands—are expect ed to attend from Cleve land, Avery, Burke, Cataw ba, Gaston, Mitchell and Rutherford Counties. The event, to be held at 6:30 p.m. at Shelby Elks Lodge, will feature a recep tion and dinner. Mrs. Dan K. Moore, North Carolina's First Lady, will be a special guest and featured speaker. The meeting will also mark an early observance of Democratic Women's Day, celebrated across the country in the fall. Three Kings Mountain women are on committees for the event. Mrs. Jack White and Mrs. Bob Cox are co-chair men of decorations and Mrs. F. A. McDaniel, Jr. is chairman of the menu committee. Mrs. Gamble is program chairman. for the party. Joseph Kevin Wheeler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wheeler, celebrated his first birthday Thursday at a family party at his home at 500 Katherine Avenue. Young Wheeler is grand son of Mrs. Essie Stepp of Kings Mountain and Mrs. Luby Wheeler, Sr. of Nor folk, Va. A decorated cake was topped with a candle and cut and served with ice cream and other refresh ments. Thornburg of Winston Salem, celebrated her sev enth birthday Tuesday. Eleven guests were pres ent for party fun, and after the party the Thornburgs were hosts at a cookout with Rev. and Mrs. Wayne,. The; % cake was served with fruit 11 punch, and homemade ice Editor Tammy Dee Cobb, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Cobb, was three years old Friday and a par ty was held at her home on Phifer road. The decorated doll cake was centerpiece for the re freshment table. Ice cream was served with the cake, and balloons and candy were given as favors. Present for the party, in addition to her parents, were her grandmother, Mrs. Clyde McDaniel; Cathy and Lynn McDaniel, Debbie Ap pling, Frederick, Tonya and Rhonda Kay Kincaid, three-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Kin caid of Bessemer City, was honored on her birthday at a party attended by 47 youngsters in the Odell Memorial Methodist church fellowship hall. Pink and red streamers and balloons decorated the hall. Guests were given pink and red hats with their names on them. They were entertained by a three-act puppet show given by Lynn Rhyne and Karol Kincaid, children's games and stories by Mrs. J. B. Simpson. Rhonda's pink birthday cake was decorated with danc ing ballerinas. Pink and red cakes, red punch, and ice cream were served. Door prizes were won by Kenny Rhyne and Jackie Blanton. Helping the hosts to serve were Rhonda Kay s aunts Martha Wells of Kings Mountain and Sara Kincaid of Bes semer City, Bobbl Kincaid, Mosie Todd, Nancy Rhyne and her uncle, Tonnie Ware of Kings Mountain. East Gold St. Church Setting Sunday For Ellison-Kilgore Double-Ring Rites East Gold Street Wesleyan Methodist church provided the setting Sunday at 3 p.m. for the wedding of Miss Viola Magda lene Ellison and John David Kil gore. Rev. Clyde R. Goodson, minis ter of the church, was assisted by Rev. E. O. Gore in officiating at the double-ring ceremony. Mrs. Eddie Brazzle was at the piano for the program of tradi tional music and Robert Good- son was vocal soloist. Mr. Good- son sang “Whither Thou Goest" before the ceremony and "Seal Us O Holy Spirit" as the bene- diction- The altar of the church was covered in white and banked by palms and background greenery- candles and white glads. Ed Thrift, brother-in-law of the bride, gave her in marriage- The bride's gown was a formal design of bridal satin and lace, featur ing a lace jacket with long sleeves. The full skirt was high lighted by a chapel train. Her triple-tiered shoulder-length veil was attached to a crown of pearls and she carried a white Bible topped with a white orchid and satin streamers. Miss Orvita Poppell of Odum, Ga., college classmate of the bride, was maid of honor. Her formal-length gown of blue satin ^"'the White had a white lace jacket. She' wore a blue headpiece with flirt ation veil attached and carried long-stem white chrysanthe mums. Miss Dixon Back From World's Fair 'Diane Dixon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. K. Dixon, joined a group of 103 King’s College stu dents and faculty members for a six day chartered bus trip to New York and the World’s Fair j last week- ‘ Miss Dixon returned home 1 Wednesday. She will enroll at King’s in Charlotte for the fall j term. i In addition to spending two ! days at the Fair, the students ! took guided bus and boat tours of Manhattan and returned by way of Washington, D. Pair Honored At Cake Cutting Miss Viola Ellison and John David Kilgore were honored after their wedding rehearsal Saturday night at a cake cutting held at the home of the bride- elect’s mother, Mrs. Bertha Elli son. A color note of traditional green and white was carried out in decorative details. Overlaid with green over white linen, the bride’s table held a three-tier white and green cake as central highlight. Green punch was serv ed from the opposite end of the table. Centering the long table was a mass arrangement of white glads. Assisting in serving were two sisters of the bride-to-be, Mrs. Ed Thrift and Mrs. Edith Go forth, and Miss Carolyn Butler, the bride-elect’s college class mate.
