Bessemer City ! hit a telephone pole and finally Mrs. Melvin Moore, Route b,! ^ame to a stop in the parking lot I Ralph Lee Miller of Grover was charged with a stop sign violation following an accident at the intersection of East Gold Street and Battleground Avenue Monday around 9 p.m. Miller was driving a 1961 Dodge Am-:ulance owned by the Grover Rescue Squad and was on his way to the Kings Moun tain Hospital when the accident occurred. Miller told investigating offi cers Joe Harmon and William Roper that he was about 50 or 75 feet from the light when it changed to red and that he could not get stopped in time to avoid hitting a 1955 model Ford driven by Ronny Roberts, 19, of the Midpines community. Roberts was attempting to make a left turn from East Gold onto South Battleground when 1 the Rescue Squad vehicle struck ! the front end of the car, eareen- ied off it. went across the rail- ! road tracks, knocked down a slop sign at the intersection of Sunday, December 12th, is Universal Bible Sunday. GROVBIR — The Grover Lions Club and Rescue Squad are col lecting toys that can be repaired to be distributed to children of ne(»dy families for Christmas. The Grover Lions club met Monday night at Renn’s Cafe teria and had as their guest speaker Worth Morris. C. F. On Tuesday night in the church basement of First Baptist church the Alma Hunt circle had their Christmas supper and fellowship. Steve Bell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bell fell at school on Friday, breaking his ann. Circles 1. 2, 3, and 4 of Shiloh Presbyterian church met this week at the following homes and hostess for the circles were Mrs. P. A. Francis, Mrs. B. H. Harry. Mrs. William Hambright and Mrs. Paul Hambright. On Dec. 15th the family Christmas party will be held in the church baae- -ment. This is an annual church night, for Shiloh Presbyterian church. Beck Wright fell on Wednes-, day at his home, breaking his right wrist. The flowers were placed in the sanctuary at First Baptist church on Sunday by Mr. and Mrs. John Gold in memory of Mrs. E. B. Grant pointed out that whih few persons are aware of it onf out of every 16 children is borr with a major birth defect and that over 7,5U0 major birth de foots will occur in North Caro lina in the year 1965 alone. The birth defects problem is the second greatest destroyer of life in the United States. Grant said. Operation Santa Claug — a Ministerial Association-sponsored Empty Stocking project- reach ed $273 this week, and only 15 days remain before Christmas Eve to reach an expected goal of $1700 in nickels, dimes, and dol- lai« for the area needy. Kings Mountain ministers will continue their bell-ringing on downtown streets this weekend and next and were urging that citizens contribute not only mon ies for staple items for the needy but used toys and warm clothing. Goodson, project chairman and minister of East Gold Street Wesleyan Methodist church, called attention to the fact there are many needy causes which the Empty Stocking Fund 1965 will support. He cited the plight of an underprivileged couple who need food, clothes, furniture and work for the fa ther. The mother will be hospi talized soon for the birth of a child. Persons who wish to contri bute clothes or toys should de liver them to Junior Moore at Piedmont Barber Shop who is chairman of that phase of the project.
