Page «-] l-HERALD-Tuesday, March 7, 1978 Heart Month Proclaimed To call attention to the fact that deaths from h lart and blood vessel diseases are dropping as more and more people learn how they can protect them selves against these major killers, Mayor John Henry Moss today Issued a proclamation designating March as Heart Month and urging all residents of Kings Mountain to support the 1978 Heart Fund campaign. Mary H. Oreene is Kings Mountain chairperson for the campaign. The proclamation notes that during 197B, the latest year for which national statistics are available from the U. S. PubUc Health Service, heart deaths in the United States dipped below one million fOr the first time In recent years. Some of the nation’s leading medical scientists have credited the educa tional efforts of the American Heart Associa tion for the decline, due to increased public aware ness of the risk factors for heart attack and stroke and how to reduce them. Also Influencing the health picture are more and better trained per sonnel in ambulances and hospital emergency rooms and coronary care units. The proclamation points out that the Heart Association has provided much of this training, as well as a number of com munity programs for patients and their families, and years of research to discover better methods of diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of car diovascular disease. HUton suid Mrs. Frank Slncox won awards In a hat fashion show as feature of the annual Women's Oolf Luncheon at Kings Mountain Country ClUb. The show featured hats for golf, bridge and tennis enthusiasts. Students Perform Seventeen piano students of Mrs. Marshall C. Core participated in the Southern District Junior Music Festival Sat, Feb. 2Bth, at First Baptist Church In Oastonla. The Festival is sponsored by the National Federation of Music Clubs for young musicians under age 18. As members of The Young Artists junior music club, each student was required to perform one composition from his selected class in the NFMC bulletin and one com position of his choice which must also meet these reqidrements. Bach year students accumulate points toward earning gold cups and consecutive superior rating certificates; superior rating, five potnts; excellent, four points; very good, three points. Fifteen points earn a student the small gold ciqi; thirty points, medium gold cup; forty-five points, large gold cup. Students earning a "superior’' rating were Cindy Brackett, Kelly Bubiuiks, Shane Farris Lyn Oore, Patrick Hamrick, Caroline Har per, Susanna Lea, Leigh Ann Odell, Karen Penner, Gregory Thompson Usa Ann White. Earning rating of "excellent’’ were Ashley Gossett, Nancy Lee, Terl Plonk and Anita Ware Biamlng rating of "very good" were Becky Bolt and Donald CoUlns. Greenhouse Course Scheduled The Extension Depart ment of Cleveland Tech announces a course that should be very popular with many people with Spring weather just around the comer. The course Is entitled Greenhouse Gardening for Pleasure or Prodlt and Randy Hawkins, an ex perienced greenhouse grower, will Instruct. The course will dsal with scUa, reproduction, light, fertiliser, and water rs- qulrements lor all types of plants. It is also designed to help individuals In the physical operation of a greenhouse and the growing and csuing for a variety of plants.
