* Page 6A Booster Club to host bus ride to scrimmage Kings Mountain High's Booster Club will sponsor trans- portation to the Raleigh scrim- mage August 16 at Carter- Finley Stadium on the campus _ of NC State University. Twelve of the top 3-A and 4- A teams in North Carolina will participate in the benefit scrim- mage. Seats on the bus are $20 per person. Kings Mountain is sched- uled to take the field from 6-8 p.m. against Northern Durham, Fayetteville Byrd and Garner. Grants offered from local Foundation ClevelandCounty . Community Foundation is now accepting applications from non-profit organizations inter- ested in applying for grants for ~ worthwhile community pro- jects. . Priority will be given to seed grants to initiate promising new projects that cannot be covered “by the normal budgets of exist- . ing charitable organizations. Deadline for grant applications , is July 31. Grant applications can be ob- tained by: calling Robert W. Yelton, chairman, at 704-482- 7718. Applicants must be quali- fied, charitable, tax-exempt or- ganizations that serve local citizens. Areas generally not funded by the Foundation's Endowment Grants Program in- clude capital campaigns, oper- ating budgets beyond the seed level, publication of books, con- ferences, endowment funds, or grants to individuals. Last year grants went to the ‘Broad River Council and to the Shelby Composite Squadron 32050, Civil Air Patrol and the United States Air Force Auxiliary. This is the 75th anniversary of KMHS football and boosters say everyone in the area will want to be a part of the special 75th anniversary program. Businesses, industries, churches, individuals and par- ents of players and cheerleaders are invited to purchase adver- tisements. The prices are $100 for a full page, $50 for a half page, and $25 for a quarter- page. Advertisements for play- ers and cheerleaders, which in- clude a picture and brief BIG CATCH - Michael Hamrick and his grandfather Fred Hamrick went fishing June 22 and Michael landed a 4 1/2 pound, 18 inch long fish from the lake at the home of his great aunt and uncle Bill and Linda Sanders’ in Chester, SC. The Mountaineers are coming off one of their most exciting seasons in history. They went 9- 1-1 overall last year, won the Southwestern 3-A Conference and set numerous school records for scoring, rushing and passing. The Mountaineers .are cur- rently participating in weight training and passing league games and will begin preseason practice with a special "Mountaineer Madness" on August 1 at 10 p.m. They will participate in a 12-team scrim- “mage at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh on August 16 when they will battle perennial Eastern North Carolina powers Northern Durham, Garner and Fayetteville Byrd, and they will participate in the annual Gaffney Jamboree on August 21 against perennial South Carolina power Gaffney. The Mountaineers will play an 1l-game regular season schedule, including six games in John Gamble Stadium. Football season tickets on sale Season tickets for 1997 Kings Mountain High School home football games are on sale at the Principal's Office at KMHS. Season tickets for the six home games are $25, a savings of $5 off the gate prices. Season tickets also entitle the holder to an assigned seat in front of the press box. Single game tickets are $5 each. KMHS home games this year are against East Gaston on August 29, Bessemer City September 5, Crest September 26, Freedom October 3, R-S Central October 17 and North .
