The Kings Mountain Herald The Carolina Rattlers baseball team recently won first place in the Gastonia Summer Slugfest of 2008 and runner-up in the 7th Annual June Sizzler Beast of the East. The team includes Jacob Lainhart, Bishop Ford, Austin Enloe, Logan Stevens, Jacob Nixon (bat boy), Jackson Bolin (bat boy), Austin Nixon, Landon Bolin, Hunter Stinnett, Timmy Baucom, Tanner Orders, Earl Lainhart (Coach), Marcus Orders (Coach/Manager), Tom Stevens (Coach), and Jacob Sneed (not pictured). Senior men drive high scores June golf toumeys Paul Shelby won the longest putt in two of the eight Cleveland County Senior Men's Golf tour- naments in June. Richard White had the lowest gross in two of the games with scores of 72 and 74. Roy Whitaker achieved the low: gross with a score of 67 and the low net with a score of 64 in the June 5, 2008 tournament at Wood Bridge. Jerry Ross held the low gross (76) and low net (68) in the June 10,2008 game at Deer Brook. Steve Phillips achieved the low gross (70) and low net (63) in the June 12, 2008 match at Lincoln Country Club. Rich Coiner had the low gross (72) and low net (63) on June 19, 2008 on the River Bend greens and Wade Carpenter held the low gross (72) and low net (62) on June 24, 2008 at Wood Bridge. Throughout the matches in June, Harold Blanton, Toby Thrift, Ray Crocker, Charles Drewery, Charles Conwell, Gene Latham, Jack Robinson and Dale Hollifield were closest to the pin. Bill Lovelace, Paul Shelby, Mike Sutherland, Hugh Jolley, Lee Mayhew, Ron McCurry and W. A. Martin had the longest putts. Roger Thompson had the low- est gross with a score of 74 in the June 26,2008 game at Pine Grove.
