He went overseas with the regi ment in March, 1944 and after 15 months with the 15th Air Force, the regiment was assigned to the Fifth Army and attached to th& 92nd Infantry Division. During the Rome-Arno and North Appennines campaigns Colonel Chase com manded the first battalion of the 366th Infantry. He returned to the United States in November, 1945 and was assigned to the Infantry Replacement Training Center at Fort McClellan, Alabama. Colonel Chase returned to the European Command in November, 1946 and was given command of the 6975th Infantry Regiment. He was later assigned to the Provost Mar shal’s Office, EUCOM, as chief of the Field Contact Section. In this capacity he made extensive field trips in an effort to curtail the high veneral disea.se and .ser ious incident rate among troops in the European Command. He .served in this capacity until he was given command of the transportation unit. Colonel Chase will complete 24 years’ military service, active and re.serve, in June. He holds the permanent rank of colonel in the Officer’s Re.serve Corps. Colonel Cha.se was recently awarded the Army Commendation Ribbon by Lieutenant General Clarence R, .Heubner, Deputy Com manding General, European Com mand, for outstanding .service in connection with the Berlin airlift.
