The bride came to the altar on the arm of her father to "Bridal Chorus” from "Lohengrin” by Wagner. ’The altar of the church was enhanced by seven- branched wrought-Iron candelabra holding spiral tapers and decorated with a central afrgngement of white, pUfc and greeib- summer flowers against a background of palms and greenery. Howard Gene Blanton escorted his daugliter to the altar and gave her In marriage. The bride wore her mother’s wedding gown, a formal design of white Chantilly lace aind Candlelight satin which was made by the bride’s grandmother, Mrs. Leonard Gamble, 22 years ago. Seed pearls and self- covered buttons enhanced the neckline and bodice and long sleeves. Seed pearls also enhanced the neckline and long skirt which flowed Into a chapel- length train. A Chantilly lace covered Camelot cap was sparked with seed pearls and held a Chapel- length mantilla which was worn with blusher. She carried a cascade bouquet of miniature pink and white roses and English Ivy on a lace-covered Bible which belonged to her late brother, Tim Blanton. Miss Candice Rook at tended the bride as maid of honor and bridesmaids were Mrs. Garth Hawkins of Charlotte, aunt of the bride, Miss Trudy Lynn Brown of Hampton, VA. and Miss Teresa Harper of Durham. The dresses were enhanced by crystal pleated flowing skirts. ’They carried colonial bouquets of pink and blue silk summer flowers tied with pink and blue streamers. ’The flower girl carried a summer basket of silk flowers. Beat man for the bridegroom was his father, Ralph Smith of Durham. Groomsmen were Jeffrey Smith, brother of the bridegroom, Mike Green, Rusty Pollard and Rick Pridgen, all of Durham. Rlngbearer was Todd Drezner of Durham. ’The bride’s mother was gowned In a shrimp formal of chiffon over crepe which featured an attached Cape which dipped to raid-arm in front and hip-length In back. She wore a cym- bldlum orchid at her shoulder. The bridegroom’s mother wore a floral formal in blue, pink and yellow and a white cym- bidlum orchid at her shoulder. Grandparents of the bride and bridegroom were ushered and seated in ^eclal pews. Mrs. Ruth Gamble, maternal grandmother of the bride, chose a floral gown In white, pink and yellow. Mrs. Wiley Blanton, paternal grandmother of the bride, chose a moss green formal-length dress. Both are of Kings Moun tain and wore silk cor sages. Mrs. CTlyde Grimes of Virginia, maternal grandmother of the bridegroom, chose a lime green formal. Mrs. Lonnie Smith of Hickory, paternal grandmother of the bridegroom, chose an aqua formal. Both wore silk corsages. Mr. Smith, J. Wiley Blanton, and Lafayette I. Baker, great grandfather of the bride, were also honored as q>eclal guests. The bride’s parents entertained after the ceremony at a beautlfuUy- appointed wedding reception which carried out the pink and white theme of the wedding. Overlaid with lace over pink the bride’s table, highlight of decoration, held a tall, tiered pedestal cake enhanced by four- heart-shaped cakes on a base with risers lifting the remaining tiers, or namented with spiral designs of pink roses suid white cherubs. Mrs. John Sykes of Durham cut smd served the cake. Silver appointments were used on the pink and white refreshment table which was decorated with silver candelabrum set with pink tapers and arrangements of pink and white (lowers. Pink ribbon runners of satin ran the length of the cloths. The bride’s register table was a conversation piece for guests who were Invited to register by Mrs. Deanie Neal. A bride doll was centerpiece for the table and was dressed In a replica of the bride’s wedding dress, made from scraps of the dress by the bride’s maternal grand mother, Mrs. Ruth Gamble of Kings Mountain. The heirloom Jewelry the doll wore belonged to the Gamble-Baker family. A pink and white bridal bouquet also decorated the register table. Mrs. Deanie Neal also registered guests at the church and distributed wedding programs. Mrs. Deanie Parrish directed the wedding. Mrs, Thelma McKeel baked the bride’s cake which was cut and served with pink punch and party refreshments. For a wedding trip, the bride chose a navy blue dotted Swiss dress which was made by her mother. She lifted the corsage from her bridal bouquet. Wedding guests from Kings Mountain. In ad dition to grandparents, were Mr. and Mrs. Giles Bell, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Webster luid son, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Blanton of Kings Mountain. Also attending from this area were the bride’s great- aunt, Mrs. J.S. Dedmon and Mr. Dedmon, of Shelby. BRIDE AND BRIDEGROOM Mr. and Mrs. Howard Blanton of Durham, for merly of Kings Mountain, are parents of the bride who Is a native of Kings Mountain. While Mr. Blanton was In the U.S. Navy, the Blantons traveled extensively and since 1970 have lived In Durtiam. She graduated from Northern High School and Is employed at 'Things Remembered at North (3ate Mall. She plans to further her education in accounting. ’The bridegroom is the son of Ralph Smith and Mrs. Mary Bray, both of Durham. He served three years In the U.S. Army Reserves and is employed as a deputy sheriff with the Durham County Sheriff’s Depsu'tment. AFTER REHEARSAL An after-rehearsal party was hosted Friday evening by parents of the bridegroom who en tertained at Blair House in Durham for 60 guests. The pink and white wedding theme was featured in decorative details. ’Hie bride-to-be wore a long peach formal with matching capelet and a white shoulder corsage. Punch and party refreshments were served.
