You’ve told of how he had a smile or how he laughed when all the while his troubles were great and his pleasures few. You've told of how much he meant to you Put you don’t know what that smile was to me. When the going was rough and I didn’t see how I could make it, he’d smile and say, “Hang in there girl, you’ll have your day. Don’t sit around feeling sad and blue, whatever happens you know that I love you, don’t worry about your troubles and strife, you have to get all you can out of life. Be happy, that’s all I ask of you. Live your life the way you want to- And so I will, but all the while. I’ll be thinking of Daddy’s smile. A MEMORIAL TO GRADY CHANEY By Diana Bolin He’s not an ordinary person, not just another man He holds a place deep in my heart, that no one else on earth can. He’s kind, he’s gentle, he’s spent his life bringing happiness to others and sharing their strife His smile is like a warm, summer’s day. His sparkling eyes like the flowers in May The touch of his hands is vibrant and warm The softness of his voice can calm any storm Who, would might this be? This man I’ve described Well, he’s My Daddy, my love, my life. The man who once bounced me on his knee, Drying my tears and making me see- That tomorrow may never come my way But making sure I had happiness today. The man who said, “I’ll stand by you" And every day has made it come true. He was my shoulder when I was down He picked up the pieces and turned me around He was always there, arms opened wide Building me up, renewing my pride He never seemed tired, and never complained He was my sunshine every day it rained He made sure I had rainbows and butterflies free No one else could have done this - except for - ‘ My Daddy.
