Photo by Katrena McsCall BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — Dr. Craven Williams, president of Gardner-Webb College announced the promotion of two main college ad ministrators, Dr. Paul Holcomb and Mr. Barry Hartls. Dr. Holcomb Is being promoted to vice-president for development from director of development. Mr. Hartls’ position will change from treasurer and business manager to vice- president for business and finance. In making the an nouncement to the College’s Board of ’IVustees Williams said, “Sound financial management and the development of financial resources are critical to the well-being of any private business. Private colleges are no exception. Mr. Hartls and Dr. Holcomb have given outstanding direction to these key areas. I have complete confidence In them and value their counsel. These title changes reflect their overall value to the college and their level of con tribution to our total program.” Dr. Holcomb came to Gardner-Webb College in May 1977 from Meredith College In Raleigh as director of development. Dr. Holcomb carried with him to Gardner-Webb a record of significant achievement In the field of college public relations and development. Since diat time, he has proven to maintain his high qualifications. Dr. Holcomb holds a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and the Juris doctorate from the College of Law of the University of Kentucky. In 1966 he was discharged from the United States Army with the rank of captain and then served for three years as an in structor with the Westinghouse Learning Corporation, a subsidiary of Westinghouse Electric Corporation In Franklin, Indiana. Mr. Ross was an unsuccessful bidder for district commissioner In the most recent city elections. The pace of city political activity quickened this week as races developed In District Four, where Norman King Is opposed by Dutch Wilson, and In District ’Three, where Corbet Nicholson Is opposed by T. J. (Tommy) Ellison, a former com missioner. Mayor John Henry Moss an nounced Monday that he will seek re-election. District One Comm. Hartls was employed as a certified public ac countant for Ernst & Ernst In Charlotte prior to Joining the Gardner-Webb staff. ' He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Ac countants, the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Ac countants and the Charlotte Area Chapter of CPA’s.
