6 THE CABOLINIAH WAMCTrw. N. C, SATURDAY. JULY I®, im ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY DEBUTANTES enjo> poolside char after Splash Party and picnic. (See story). IMPRESSIONS IN BR ONZE 1301 Branch Street DOWN TO EARTH MESSAGE Black people in Raleigh have been deeply involved in the Black Movement in this city. But it seems as though the mes sage delivered by so - called Black leaders hasn't really pie aren't really DAVIS ready because they don’t really understand this so-called Black leader. We, the poor Blacks, have lived in poverty, our children eat beans all week long; in the winter, you can’t come to our house and find ten coats' We need those coats because when our children go to bed, we, the poor parents use that “fab ulous” wardrobe to keep our children warm. You get mad, I get mad, because the white man comes down into our com munity and tells us in a meet ing that we don't belong or de serve a docent home. Because he says our children and our homes are filthy! All of us know white and Biack, that we poor Blacks think as much of our children as the rich Black and rich white do of theirs' We don’t have any money, we have to feed them, and clothe them as best we can. People who are out of our class, always ask how do we stay in those raggedy houses? Well, man if you just use your brain, you would know that we poor Blacks are trying to find the cheapest rent, because ii we didn’t our children wouldn't even be eating those beans' We, the Black people in the Southside aie hung up, trapped, and confused about this urban renewal thing. I will admit that I really never paid much at tention to the problem that we now have, because the white man approved a project, and I don't mean any housing project. I mean the urban renewal highway that will make our houses dis appear on the Southside. When the white man comes to rny house, and gives me the va cate notice, and 1 sit around like a bump ori a log, I need to 1/e in bed when the bull dozers come through Last week, 1 was ai a re ception given at Apollo Heighis. Black people were there and a handful of whites. And ail these people are to move into new homes. They heard little speeches, prizes were given out, and they drank frozen grapefuit juice, and if you could have just been there, and seen the happiness that was in the building, and happiness was on the faces of rny beautiful Black brothers and sisters. I wasn't happy because during cere mony, my heart and mind I was still in the Southside. I prayed that night that the Black people Pt PLAY GOLF ' FOR RELAXATION ~ FOR FUN COME OUT AND ENJOY YOUR SELF AND YOUR FRIENDS Tee Off Golf Club 2701 ROCK QUARRY ROAD BY EDDIE HERMAN DAVIS of the Southside might someday have a ceremony like that. “ACCEPTANCE’ For 350 years in the United States and since the existance of the white man, there has been this problem of acceptance. Acceptance comes in many forms, in prejudice, discrimi nation, and segregation. These are cloaked acceptances be cause they are the negative as pects, but I have learned that the only way to deal with a white man is negatively! I say this because anytime you deal with a white man or any man for that matter, with a positive contract, he will benefit and most likely you will lose out. But relating to the problem of acceptance is the prejudice problem. As I have said as long as the white man has existed he has been a prejudiced be ing of his own kind and other peoples. The ancient Roman and Greek cultures will prove this. Arid more recently the In dian or Redman and the Negro or Blackman were fine for pre judice and discrimination. The color of your skin was a fac tor of life or death, it deter mined your intelligence, and your capability to lead govern ment. So says the white man' Where does ne get the right to discriminate when he has no CARDINAL CAB CO., INC. 24 HOUR SERVICE 2-WAY RADIOS SAFE 4, DEPENDABLE DRIVERS ANY PLACE ANYWHERE - ANY TIME 832-5893 OR 832-5429 412 E.
