Cumberland County Community Action Center OEO ANALYST VISTS CCA? Mr. Paul Lindsay, OEO Ana* lyst visited the Cumberland Community Action Program this week. His interest was to talk with the directors and some of the staff and community people. This is not a new thing. Each year before a proposal is written for the funding of an other program year, the OEO Analyst visits all CAP pro grams in his particular dis trict (we are in the Mid-At lantic District) to evalute and give advice for the betterment of the program's future. They have invited the members of FYC to attend their next meet ing. We were pleased to have them join our meeting and hope that we can work together in the future. James McMillian gave the report on the city council meet ing held last Monday night. The summary was very complete and informed the FYC of items on the City Council agenda. Elections for sophomore members are taking place this week at Reid Ross High School and Terry Sanford High School. The two new sophomores elect ed from E. E, Smith High School are Hazel Anders and Joyce Melvin. The elections for the new members from Massey Hill High School will be held In near future. Debbie West of Reid Ross High School has completed her 25 hours required to be come an associate member of the FYC. The radio show this week will have members of the Saint Pa trick's Catholic Church Youth Group and their advisor taking part in the program. Be sure to tune in an listen at twelve noon on WFLB. Members of the FYC are going to paint the whale and turltle at Rowan Park. They are anxious to help improve the ap pearance of the park. AUSTIN begin requesting funds for an other program year. CCAP BOARD DECISIONS The CCAP Board of Direc tors met Thursday, September 18, at the County Courthouse to hold their regular monthly meeting. Following are brief notes a bout what the Board discussed and approved: 1. The hiring of a Child De velopment Director; it decided to hire a Mrs. Nancy K. Emkin, effective October Ist. 2. It discussed Mr. Kenneth G. Smith’s application for Di rector of Neighborhood Serv ices and voted to hire him, this will be effective as of October Ist also. 3. The Board voted to re quest the disbursement of $lO,- 000 for training 'low-income people and sub-professional staff members. It suggested that $5,000 be used from the 1969 budget and $5,000 be used from the 1970 budget. 4. It accepted the resigna tion of Mr. Luther (Nick) Je ralds and Mr. Fred Farmer who have done remarkable iobs for CAP. SSOLW Club Holds Meet FAYETTEVILLE - TheS.S,- O. L. W. Club met at the home of Mrs. Juliette Farrar, Sept. 26. The meeting was called to or der by the president with the repeatLng of the Lord’s prayer. New and old business was discussed. The members of the SSOLW are planning for the Au tumn Cabaret , which will be held Nov 28 the new Peaguin Lounge and Steak House. Staffers Named To Funds Body FAYETTEVILLE - Two Fay etteville State University ad ministrative officials have been named to a state-wide committee to raise funds for a chapel for Dobbs School For Girls, Kinston. Named were J. C. Jones, Dean of Students; and P. R. Leazer, Director of Public Re lations. Announcement of their appointment was made by Dr. Rachel D, Davis and Mrs. Fan nie T. Newsome, co-chairman of the campaign, Jones and Leazer will parti cipate in their initial commit tee meeting Sunday, October 12, at Dobbs School for Girls. L. Jeralds Is Named To PostAtFSU FAYETTEVILLE - Luther R, Jeralds has been named assist ant business manager at Fay ette vi lie St at e University, President Charles Lyons has announced. Jeralds comes to the Fay etteville post from the Cumb erland County Community Ac tion Program where he served as Director of the Neighbor hood Youth Corps from 1966- ’69. The position is a new administrative post at FSU. Speaking on behalf of the uni versity, Dr. Lyons said “the university is fortunate to have in Mr. Jeralds a person with much experience in administra tion and finance and with de dication to peopie. We look for ward to having the benefits of his talents in the important role of assistant business man ager.” A native of Fayetteville, Je ralds received .the B. S. C. degree tn accounting from North Carolina Central University. He is presently enrolled in gradu ate studies at NCCU. While a student at NCCU, Jeralds was a Business Ad ministration Scholar and was an All-CIAA performer on the football team.
