Apex Consolidated B@a! BY FLORA HATLEY APEX-In September, the doors of Apex Consolidated o pened to fifty-two perspective June, 1070 graduates. Along with the duties and responsibilities of being a senior will come stud ying and homework as well as social activities. Therefore the senior class has put its first foot forward and elected these students to serve as class of ficers: President, Judy Wilson; vice president, Mary Council; secretary, Grace Powell; asst, secretary, Peggy Smith; treas urer, Donnie Cobb; asst, treas urer, Brenda Smith; financial secretary, Chester McCoy; parliamentarian, Joseph Byrd; sgt-at-arms, Jerry Council; historians, Grace Powell, Daoderlyn Johnson; and re porters, Loretta Burt, Glenda McMasters. The first Job confronting the newly-elected officers was the election of the annual staff. Compiling the Tiger this year is the job of editor, Jeanie Jefferys; co-editor, Glenda Mc- Masters; business manager, Wilma Farrington; typist, Peggy Horton, Burma Hawkins, Flora Hatley, Loretta Burt, and advertisement manager, Dan der lyn Johnson, Although most of the busi ness transactions have been taken in stride, there is also the matter of class rings, gradua tion portraits and announce ments. The senior class has gladly announced that these de tails have been completed. The junior class has gotten off to a good start this year also. The first item on the a genda for the junior class was the election of class officers. Filling the officer of president this year is Venson Thomas; vice president, Cynthia Jones; recording secretary, Brenda Smith; corresponding secre tary, David Jones; treasurer, Violet Farrar; parliamentari an, Bernard Richardson; sgt.- ai-arms, Phyllis Minter. Preceding the election of class officers were the plans for the Junior-Senior Prom in the spring. With early planning the prom committee hopes to produce the best prom ever. With the newly-elected class officers working diligently with their advisors, Mrs M. L. Horton and Mrs. H. Hudson, the juniors chose and ordered their class rings during the first part of October. With the first six weeks re porting period, Mr. C. D. Keck, principal of the Apex Consoli dated School, has released the names of the students who have t»colHYii(e BY CAROLYN BRASWELL AS BURY - Sunday School o pened at 10 sum, with the supt., Mr. Charles Rogers, presiding. The opening hymn was “Trust and Obey/' Prayer was ied by Mr. Marshall Brown. The sec ond hymn was "I Must Tell Jesus.” The subject of the les son was “Reforms Among God's People.” The scripture was taken from II Kings 18:1-6 and 23:21-25, The banner attendance and banner class was the same. Their instructor was Mr. James White. A review of the lesson was given by Mr. Melvin Hook er. Morning worship services began at 11 with the pastor, Rev. E, Jenerette presiding. The junior choir rendered the mu sic, Mr, Marshall Brown gave the prayer. The scripture was taken from 34th Psalm; text of St. James 8 6th chapter: “Which will we serve God or Baal?” announcement On November 7 the monthly board meeting will be held at 7:30. A THOUGHT “X have laid up thy word in my heart; that I might not sin against Thee.” Psalms 119:11, attained positions on the Honor Roll for this first reporting period. Peggy Ann Horton, a senior, made the A Honor Roll, and the following students main tained an over all average of B of better: Dwight Wright, Vanessa Roland, Cynthia Sea groves, G1 or i a Blackman, Wayne Cannady, Daryl coun cil, Gregory Council, Robert Stewart, Joan Cross, Samuel Garris, Carolyn Crump;Claude Farrar, Angela Scott, Janet Thomas, Reginald Stratford Hinton, Sharon Elaine Thom as, Sylvia Boone, Cheryl Y vonne Council, Mary Magaline Harris, Cynthia Jones, David Lee Jones, Bernard Douglass Richardson, Sherard Lovelace Richardson, Donnie Ben Cobb, Mary Ann Council, Dorothy Ma rie Franks, Flora Jane Hat ley, Marilyn Sue Jones, Patri cia Ann Judd, Jeanette Marie Lee, Linda Yvonne Mills, and Grace Marie Powell. If no one else is happy that last week is a thing of the past, the freshman girls are. All freshman girls were in volved in the FHA (Future Homemakers of America) in itiation. Coming to school in a very abrupt appearance, the girls 4 ‘kept on keeping on,” Through all the ridicule, the girls still held fast to their project. One of the most hilar ious days was the first. On Monday, the girls had to walk around with a sauce pan which was a symbol of cooking. Finally, all of the activities came to an end. On Friday, the officers were elected. They are: president, Jeannie Jef ferys; vice president, Syliva Boone; secretary, Brenda Ful ler; treasurer, Phyllis Minter; reporter, Danderlyn Johnson; co-reporter, Grace Powell; historian, Violet Farrar; and. song leader, Gail Burt. The newly installed FAHers are: Teresa Cross, Mary L. Hall, Patricia Hooker, Marilyn Lee, Wanda Mason, Shelia McDonald, Brenda Morrision, Glenda Rog ers, Patricia Spinks, Sharon Thomas, Carolyn Yates, Kathy Farrington, Vickie Gainey, Grace Smith, Virginia Burt, Rosa Mae Byrd, Vanessa Clay, Jennifer Gunter, Diane Har rington, Dorefha Harris, Teresa Jones, Sharon Judd, Sylvia Judd, Marguerite Luns ford, Brenda McClain, Linda R. Man gum. With the president presid ing, everything was carried out very well. Art extra attraction to the program was a skit done by several girls called, “Charlie Brown Learns About P. O. W.” The skit was also performed at the FHA Conven tion last month and it was well performed by our own FHA girls. The Apex Consolidated A lumni enjoyed a very interest ing and rewarding meeting last Sunday afternoon in the school's lunchroom. Repre sentatives from each graduat ing class attended this initial meeting (1957-1969) at which time the following officers were elected: president, Louis Po well; vice president, W. T. Wilson, Jr,; sec retar y, Mrs. Frances T. Bullock; and treas urer, Willis C. Cotton. Plans were executed by the Association to sponsor an A iurnni Bail on December 26, as its first major project. A membership drive is underway, whereby the goal is 100 percent participation by all graduates and/or former students. The president, Mr, Powell, has an nounced a period of two weeks for securing charter member ship. PRINCIPALS IN A&T SKKYICK ALUMNI WORSHIP-Participants in the annual Alumni Worship Service at A&T State University last Sunday in cluded Mrs. Shirley E. Frye, Greensboro, the Rev. Sampson Buie, as sistant scout executive of the General Greene Council, Greensboro, Mrs. Julia Brooks, national president of the A&T State University General Alumni Association, Philadelphia; and Willie J. Walls, Chadbourn. The Rev. Mr Buie was guest speaker at the service. BY MRS. LOUISE COLVIN APEX - The male chorus of First Baptist Church was in charge of the music for the 11 o'clock worship service as they are always on the fourth Sun days, Mr. Nathaniel Lofton was soloist and organist. We welcome visitors always. Sunday afternoon at 2:30 the Church observed its 15th annual Homecoming Day. Rev. E. T. Thompson, pastor of the Com munity Baptist Church of Dur ham, his choir and congrega tion, rendered the services. Rev. Thompson’s text was tak en from, the Book of Genesis 4;8. He used as a subject “The Secret Storm.’' It was a great sermon. Mrs. Frances Marrow gave the welcoming address; Mrs. Bernice Bullock read the history; Mrs. Doris Richard son and Mrs. Joyce McDonald lifted the offering. The cap tains report was given by Mrs. Louise Colvin. Our goal was $3,500 which was realized. The pastor and members are thank ful for the success of this Homecoming. PERSONALS Mr. Willie H. Morton of Dur ham was the Sunday evening guest at the Colvin home.
