Opening Thursday, November 6, the newest Family Center in a chain of 24 stores promises to lie the largest' and the best. Sitting on a 17,000 square feet tract of land in beautiful Gar ner Plaza, the Wood’s Fami ly Center has an item for every member of the family. With ar ticles ranging from toys for the youngsters 'o furniture and appliances sos the home; all tastes will be satisfied with a visit to the store. Zeta-Lite Talent , Fashion Show At Bloodworth Si 'T The Zeta -Lite Talent and Fashion Show sponsored by the Omicron Zeta Chapter of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority was held on Sunday at the Bloodworth Street YMCA. Greetings was extended by Soror Bernestine Sander to the approximately 75 participants, parents and friends who attend ed. The theme of the program was “Top to Toe,” and Part I pre sented as models; Judy Wil liams, Wanda Goins, Mary Ann Jones and Majorie Gill. Part II presented Cheryl Ltgon on the piano with a vocal rendi tion by Carole Craven. Part 111 presented as models Bernet ta Poole and Brenda Graham. Part IV presented as models Sandra Crutchfield, Bernetta Poole, Tanya Parks, Cassandra Floyd, Martha Raines. Talent presented in Part IV included The Wood’s Family Canter chain is owned and operated by Lawrance Wood. Jones, Formerly Os Shaw, Passes PETERSBURG, Va. - Glen wood Earl Jones, a retired di rector of Building and Grounds at Virginia State College,pass ed recently at his home In Pe tersburg following prolonged illness. Jones was once employed as business manager by Shaw U niversity, Raleigh, N. C., from 1932 until 1954. Before coming to work at Shaw, he worked as inventory clerk and assistant business manager at Virginia State College for three years following his graduation from Howard University in 1829, In 1954, Jones became the di rector of Buildings and Grounds on the Virginia State campus and remained there until his re tirement last May, While at Shaw, he was a mem ber and trustee of thp First Baptist Church of Raleigh, At Virginia State College he was teller and advisor of the finance committee of Gillfleld Baptist Church, Petersburg, Va, The deceased left behind, his wife, Mrs Ruth Janes; three children, Glen wood E. Jones, Jr., Charles B. Jones and Mrs. Ida Jones White; four grand children and many other rel atives and friends. Last rites were observed at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, Chilesbure. Va. Apex District Credit Union Begins Campaign APEX - The Apex District credit Union (ADCU), Apex, re cently launched a county-wide membership drive. Operating much the same as a savings and loan organization, the ADCU embraces all of Western Wake County-Apex, New Hill, Cary, Morrisvilie, Hatchet Grove, Holly Springs and, Fuquay, Founded in August of 1868, it is especially geared to low income families. The founder* of the ADCU envisioned a pro gram where low income re sidents could have regularly and subsequently borrow money at interest rates substantially lower than other lending in stitutions. Membership in the Credit Un ion is obtained through the purchase of shares. A person buys a share for $5,00 and be comes a voting member. The share is really & savings cer tificate and goes into a savings account tor the purchaser. The membership drive now under way has a two-fold func tion. New members are eager ly being sought, and present ADCU members are being en couraged to increase their sav ings by buying more shares. The drive terminates on Sun day, November 9. The ADCU’* Membership Committee has scheduled a cul mination program for the drive. The program features gospel groups from the churches in the area. A **Miss Apex Dis trict Credit Union” will be crowned to top off the events.
