FUOUAY-VARINA FUQUAY - VARINA - Sunday School was held at all local churches with the superintend ents presiding. First Baptist Church opened Sunday School at 10 a.m. with the Supt., Mr, Alford Thorpe, in charge of de votion. The teachers took charges of their classes. The subject of the lesson was, “God’s Judgment on Judea.*’ The text of the lesson was from Jeremiah 26:1-16. Remarks were made by Rev. Trice and Rev. George Wright who was visiting our Sunday School. Morning worship service be gan at 11:15 a.m. with the pas tor Rev. N. A. Trice, pre siding. The responsive read ing was from Psalm l03;l—8. Scripture was read by Rev. Wright. Prayer was offered by Mr Alford Thorpe. Rev. Trice delivered the message. He chose his text from the book of Sfc. John 5:-4? and used as a subject, “Are We Concerned A - Jesus?*’ Music was ren dered by the Gospel Chorus, accompanied by Mr. Charlie Prince. LOUISE CAESAR at our church every first and third Sundays. After morning service, din ner was served in the base ment of the church, and the hospitality shown was very warm and friendly. Sunday af ternoon at 2:45, First Baptist observed its annual Homecom ing Day. Mr. Willie Lee Clay, Mr. Ned Daye and Mrs. Odell Thorpe were in charge of devo tion. The Rev. G. A. Jones delivered the sermon. Music was rendered by the Juniper Level Chorus, also Norihside Baptist Male Chorus, Durham. We are always glad to see new faces, friends and families of this community come home for the Homecoming Day. We hone their stay was an enjoyable erne. Let’s all continue to pray for our sick and shut-in. Hospitali zed are: Mrs. Lillie Stewart and Mr. Marvin Johnson, who are at Wake Memorial Hospital, Ra leigh. Pastor Jones chose his text for the morning mes sage from St. Luke 5:4 and used as a theme **A Shallow Christian. 99 Music was rend ered by the Gospel Chorus. Our services were graced with many visitors, among them Rev. C. P. Briley, pastor of Good Hope Baptist Church. The doors of our churches always stand open to visitors. On Sunday evening, we re turned to U. C. C. for a serv ice sponsored by the usher board. The following choirs ap peared.; The Young Adult Choir of First Baptist, Apex; and the All-Girl Chorus. We were fev ered with a solo by Mr. Char lie Allen of St. Mary*s Free will Baptist Church. Speaker for the evning was the Rev. Mrs. Betsy Thorpe of Apex. Her text was taken from St. John 21:12 and St. Matthew 10;8 she chose for her theme: e *U You Love Me, Feed My Sheep.” Mrs. Gladys Grigsby was hostess for the YWA’s of First Baptist Sunday afternoon as they held their monthly meeting Henry Dean and Peggy John son will be celebrating their thirteenth and fourteenth birth days on November 4th and sth, respectively.
