BY MISS ELLA L. JACKSON Miss Joyce L. Perry, a daugh ter of Rev. and Mrs. L.P. Perry, will be the Woman’s Day speak er at Grace AME Zion Church, Sunday, September 26 at 11a.m. She received her elementary and high school education in Durham, having attended Lyon Park Elementary School, Whitt ed Junior High, Hillside (one year) and she received her high school diploma at Durham High in the spring of 1962. She was one of the first Ne gro students to attend a previ ously all Caucasian high school in Durham. She attended North Carolina College at Durham, (now North Carolina Central University), majoring in Eng lish and Music Education with a French minor. She was presi dent of the Women’s Student Government, Basileus of Alpha Chi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Al pha Sorority, graduating with cum laude honors, receiving the Hamilton-Shepard Award for the most outstanding contribu tion to student life for four collegiate years, appearing in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities for 1966, and she was also a mem ber of the college choir. Miss Perry also received a Master of Education Degree in Guidance and Personnel Ser vices at North Carolina State University, Raleigh, 1970-71.
