Page 6-THE NEWS-May. 1986 In And Around The JCC CB*s Handle By Cary Bernstein Director of Youth Services On May 18, the new JCC facility will open its doors to the public and we of the Jewish community will join with the members of the Greater Charlotte community to celebrate this joyous event. The staff of the “J” is very ex cited about our “grand open ing” and the youth service department has planned a series of free demonstration classes for 3-year-olds through 12th graders beginning that week. This is a unique oppor tunity for your children to meet many of the instructors who will be teaching our fall classes. At this time we will be offering demonstraticms in the following areas: drama, ballet, jazz, ceramics, storytelling, cooking and puppetry. Please call the JCC for registration information and we will be ^ad to send you a brochure with the listing of these free demos including times and dates. Today we have over 180 campers registered for sum mer day camp. I am very ex cited about our upcoming camp season. We are busily making plans and I have hired both counselors and specialty staff. In addition to the specialists I listed last month, I have added Becky Martin who will be working with the camp drama program and Ca- ty Carlin who will be instruct ing our campers in the fine art of puppetry. If you have not registered you child, please do so immediately. Plans for teen camp are also progressing well. The 7th, 8th and 9th graders enrolled in this program will participate in a wide variety of activities. Campers will have an oppor tunity to be involved in the general camp activities in cluding sports, swimming, drama, dance, and arts and crafts. In addition, these campers will have the oppor tunity to work with the younger day campers in a camp internship program, go on day or overnight trips and work together in leadership training activities. Please call me at the Center for registra tion information. See You, May 18 Stu*s Scoreboard By Stu Epstein, Director of Health & P.E.
