Pacw 17-THE NEWS-ApfH 1989 Purim Rally Held at Chabad House Children in Charlotte ex perienced the time of their life when they attended the Pu rim rally at Chabad House on Sunday, March 12. The youngsters were treated with an afternoon of fun and games. They made their own delicious hamantaschen, created costumes and crowns. A delicious lunch was served to all partici pants, who also received freshly baked hamanta schen from New York. The older children partic ipated in a Purim talent show depicting various char acters of the Purim story. Rabbi Binyomin Weiss sang with the children and told them exciting Purim stories. Chanie Weiss led the Preschool students performing in Purim play. Children listening to Rabbi Binyomin Weiss’s storytelling. children in arts and crafts projects. There were prizes galore, many winners and many smiling faces. Each child received a Purim kit to be used on Purim day. These kits included hamanta schen, snacks and tzedakah (charity) for the poor. A special thanks goes to Kim Doobrow, Dina Sander son, Susan Doobrow and Debbie Maslov for helping with the Purim rally. A Wedding to Remember They came from Char lotte, Pittsburgh and San Paulo, Brazil to celebrate the wedding of Frank and Flora Levin. The friends and fam ily of Norman and Donna Levin of Charlotte and the Chmelinik family of San Paulo joined the bride and groom in a wedding they won’t forget. The wedding, which took place in Brookljm, NY, was set in the heart of the Luba- vitch community, where Ephraim attends Rabbinical School. As tradition has it, the Chupah Canopy was placed outdoors and the ac tual ceremony was held un der the clear but cold skies of New York. A Chassidic wedding has two parts, the first is rather serious. The second is joyous and happy. During the first part, the bride receives guests in a royal setting. The groom (in Hebrew it is Light Factory to Hold Print Auction The Light Factory Photo graphic Arts Center will hold its ninth annual photo graphic print auction on Saturday, April 22, at 7:00 p.m., at Shalom Park-Jew- ish Community Center. Auc tioneer Fred Kessler will preside. The 100 stylistically di verse works chosen for the auction can be previewed from 5:(X) to 6:55 p.m., the evening of the auction. In cluded are works by Peter Henry Emerson, Aaron Sis kind, Imogen Cunningham, Margaret Bourke-White, Gloria DeFilipps-Brush, Ca rolyn DeMeritt, Ann Eh- ringhaus, Charles Johnson, Mark Klett, John Pfahl, Mark Sluder and Sam Wang. The event serves to ex pand community apprecia tion of photographic art while supporting light Fac tory programming and promoting ascending photo graphic artists. After the recitation and signing of the contracts, the groom enters the cham bers of his bride and covers her with a white satin veil which she keeps on her until after the Chupah ceremony. The second part of the wedding includes the meal and much singing and danc ing. The guests enjoyed de licious New York cuisine and danced the night away to the music of the Piamenta Band. In the tradition of Chassidic weddings the men and wom en sat separately, divided by huge live plants which dec orated the hall. The Charlotte guests in cluded many of the Levin’s Mends. For many, this was the first Chassidic wedding they had experienced and were very taken by the joy and liveliness of the com munity.
