Rebecca Cowan, daughter of Michal Cowan and Allen Cowan, a student at East Mecklenburg High School, spent a week in Washington, D.C. to observe government in action. She was chosen for a recent session of the National Young Leadership Conference, sponsored by the Congressional Youth Leadership Council to give young people a hands-on civics lesson. Participants are chosen for academics, leadership and citizenship. • Cowan Stephanie Brodsky, daughter of Sue and Bob Brodsky, a freshman at UNC-CH, has been named to the Dean's list for the fall semester. She is also a copy editor at “The Daily Tar Heel.” Also on the Dean’s list at UNC-CH are Alison Goodman, daughter of Michelle and Barry Goodman; David Massachi, son of Rose Diamond and Ben Massachi; Brian Schneiderman, son of Alexis Stein and Mike Schneiderman. Scott Rosenberg, son of Diane and Arnold Rosenberg, a junior at the U. of Ala.-Tuscaloosa, has been named to the Dean’s list for the fall semester with a 4.0. Adam Cohen was named to the fall quarter dean’s list at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia. Steven Greenberg, son of Beverly and Irving Greenberg, has been named to the fall semester dean’s list at UNCC. • A gala Testimonial Dinner-Dance honoring Rabbi Jacob and Joanne Luski on their B’nai Mitzvah year with Congregation B'nai Israel, took place on Feb. 2. It was the culmination of a super simcha weekend planned to honor Rabbi Luski’s 13 years of devotion to the congregation and the entire Jewish community in St. Petersburg, FI. Rabbi Luski is the son of Rose and Abe Luski. • Jeffrey Huberman is the new president of the N.C. chapter of the American Institute of Architects. • Diana Ades, daughter of Sue Ades, has been promoted to Vice President Special Events & Travel Management of MTV Networks. She is President and co-founder of Exhibitors in Cable and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Inter-collegiate Broadcasting System and one of only 500 Certified Meeting Planning Professionals in the United States. • Libby Ginn won third place for her abstract gouache in the 1991 Guild of Charlotte Artists Members Miniature Show at Walden Gallery in Charlotte. • Phyllis Schultz, owner of Charlotte Ben & Jerry's franchise on * Providence Rd., received four awards at a recent national meeting of the company.
