The Charlotte Jewish News - January 2015 - Page 27 Congratulations to Sandra Goldman, the New President of the Charlotte Chapter of Hadassah Jewish Family Services ^ Incoming Hadassah President, Sandra Goldman, with im mediate past president, Patricia Johnson. Thank You for Making Hanukkah Special Jewish Family Services wishes to thank all of you who made this year so special for our families. We know we can always count on our community members to bring the joy of Hanukkah to the people in our community who need a lit tle help over the holidays. Each year JFS asks our clients to provide a wish list for Hanukkah. Nobody ever asks for anything extravagant, perhaps a toy, often it’s a warm coat. This year, one 97 year old woman asked for a gift certificate to Trader Joe’s so she could buy or ange marmalade that reminds her of Hanukkahs from her childhood. Another couple asked for games they could play with their children and grandchildren to celebrate family nights. On the hot toy list this year - anything from Frozen. Each of those items is written on a paper dreidel with the client’s age and gender and the dreidels are then distributed throughout our community. From the Levine JCC, to Charlotte Jewish Pre school, to Temple Israel, almost 200 dreidels resulted in 200 gifts that were delivered to JFS clients in time for Hanukkah. In addition to the dreidels, Charlotte Jewish Day School got their families involved with the JFS Hanukkah wishes. gift drive during their winter Scholastic book fair. Students and parents purchased books for each JFS client on the gift list, includ ing large print books for our sen ior clients and books for our adults who are often forgotten during Hanukkah. In an effort to include the fam ilies in the giving-process, JFS asks that the gifts be delivered un wrapped. We do this in order to empower the families who are re ceiving gifts to feel part of the process and part of the holiday season. Each family receiving gifts is even provided with Hanukkah wrapping paper. This year the Moishe House conducted a successful wrapping paper drive to provide paper that was sent home with each family to wrap their presents. Your donations allowed babies to age 97 to celebrate the miracle of Hanukkah and the gift of Tzedakah. Thank you also to Temple Israel Religious School, Temple Beth El, Temple Kol Tik- vah, and all of you who donated. *Please note, this information is as of 12-5-2014. If you donated to the Hanukkah gift drive and were not mentioned in this article, please accept our apologies. We will acknowledge your generosity in the February issue. ^ Charlotte ™ ^ Jewish Preschool LEARN ■ : r-. CONNECT MiH Mts Ssmilvd!
