Independence location f. H Dear Friend, When I arrived in July of 1998, becoming the Pastor for MCC Charlotte, many people spoke to me about the need for a “Commu nity Center” and while I agree that such a place is needed, I believe that before such a task can be undertaken, we must first build a “sense of community” among our/the people. Otherwise, all we have is a building that houses many agencies and service organizations. I believe the vision that God has given to me and to our congregation speaks to something more. Something which will draw people together and a place that will be a springboard for pride, consistency, and commitment to healthy spirituality and human in volvement. Community may be defined as “joint ownership,” “similarity,” “like ness,” “a body of people living in the same place with common ideals and dreams,” “a feeling or sense of belong ing,” and “a place from which all else flows.” MCC Charlotte can be a place where one’s sense of belong ing and involvement can grow and where one will realize that they belong to something greater than themselves; a higher purpose. MCC Charlotte is about “Building a Center for Community.” The vision that God has given to us is one which speaks to the de velopment of a greater foundation which will serve to ground our ‘ *; i'S-’-' % ■ ii* .T- MCC Charbtte d doon to be new church home located at 1825Eodtway Drive next to Methodidt Home Park people for future endeavors and diverse participation as a gathered community. It is a vision that speaks to a place where people of all “likenesses” will find a source of affirmation, strength, safety, and empowerment. It is a vision that speaks of a place from which all else flows. It is our hope that as we strive to develop MCC Charlotte as a “Center for Community” that each of you will not only be ex cited about such a vision, recog nizing it’s importance, but will actively and financially support maldng this vision a reality. Join MCC Charlotte as we reach out with God to establish the foun dation needed to make “Our Community” strong. Thank you for your attention and support. I look forward to the possibility of talking with you further about our vision for the Charlotte area and this church. I also look forward to your total BBii support of this endeavor in the near future.
