JANUARY, 1956 'F»r«$(one MJlwi Page 7 Firestone Children Attend Annual Yule Party The Bringer of Good Cheer from the North Pole kept his traditional appointment with some 2,080 children under 14 years of age, of Firestone em ployees, at the Webb and Palace theatres in Gastonia, Saturday morning, December 17. At the Webb theatre there was a show for the children at 9 and 11 a.m. At the Palace, the show began at 10 a.m. Santa Claus appeared at the end of each performance at both theatres and distributed gifts. For those children of em ployees who were unable to at tend one of the theatre parties, presents were distributed Sat urday afternoon at the person nel office of the plant. Suzanne Taylor was one of the first—and most enthusiastic—to greet the North Pole's most fa- *nous citizen. Juliette Sadler wasn't quite sure whether she ''^9s interested in Santa or the photographer— either. Raymond Eugene Mack took advantage of the opportunity to catalog his wants for Christmas. Barbara Abernathy, Industrial Relations sec retary, was one of several who helped Saint Nick spread Christmas cheer. 4 m Nelson Jackson, James Young, Celie Jackson and Garland Knox considered it serious business to be introduced to Santa Claus. firestone Velon tn ‘Ruslon 555’ , A new and improved Venetian ^ind tape, called “Ruslon 555,” made of Firestone Velon, been introduced. The tape is of the several products now ^ing made by the Russell .^^nufacturing Company of ^iddletown, Conn., in the Rus- Bennettsville, S. C. plant. All Venetian blind tape opera tions, including warping, weav ing, finishing, and packaging, now take place at Bennettsville. The tape utilizes a new Velon yarn designed specifically for Venetian blind ladder tape. It is easy to care for, as it is dust- resistant and can be kept spot less by wiping. BESIDES these practical fea tures, the tape has the luxurious PAT HAYNES, LUCILLE DAVIS Meet Your News Reporters r W Akaafc. Pat Haynes is one of four Fire stone News reporters from the Warehouse. On her daily routine as secretary in the Cotton Class ing Office, she does general of fice work, filing, typing and serves as receptionist in her de partment. One of the recently- appointed news reporters, Pat has been working at Firestone for approximately two years. Be fore coming here she worked for an airline company in Texas when her husband was in service there. Reading and cooking are her hobbies. Lucille Davis, first shift, was one of the original group of re porters for Firestone News when the plant paper was launched more than three years ago. There was a period when she was in active, due to illness, but she was recently reappointed to gather the news of her depart ment on first shift. Employed here for almost nine years, she fills batteries on the looms in SYC Weaving. When at home the reporter enjoys gardening and flower culture, cooking and baking. VOICE OF FIRESTONE Program Gets Citation For Excellence “The Voice of Firestone,” has received the top Sylvania Tele vision Award for the best musi cal series in 1955. The awards were established five years ago by Sylvania Elec tric Products, Inc., to honor “those who are advancing cre ative television techniques.” The citation read; “We are pleased to present the Sylvania Television Award for the best musical series of 1955 to the ‘Voice of Firestone.’ Over the years, on both radio and tele vision the ‘Voice of Firestone’ program has demonstrated that good music can have a wide popular appeal if it is performed well and presented in an in teresting manner. Under the inspired musical direction of Mr. Howard Barlow, the ‘Voice of Firestone’ has consistently main tained the highest standards of excellence. In presenting as guest artists some of the out standing singers of our time, it has brought unending pleasure to the public and has made a real contribution to the American musical scene.” Other programs and personali ties receiving awards included “Peter Pan” as show of the year and James C. Preparing For Air Force Technician Airman Third Class James R. Isham, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Isham of Granite Falls and for merly of Gastonia, has completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base. Now stationed at Lowry Air Force Base, Denver, Col., Air man Isham’s present training is preparing him for entrance into Air Force technical training and for assignment in specialized work. His training course at Lowry includes a scientific eval uation of his aptitude and in clination for a technical vocation and career. He is a nephew of Inspector Louella Queen of Quality Con trol. Robert L. Ward, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Ward, Spinning, has re-enlisted in the Navy for an additional six years of serv ice, and is serving aboard the USS Wasp.
