The v/riter of the follov;ing letter'will need no intro duction to the older folks at hcne, but to you boys in the service, we vjould like to present to you, Colonel Bussey L'lttimore, of the Field Artillery Replaceinent Training Center at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Colonel Lat- timore vjas born in Shelby, son of the late Mr, and Mrs, Mills Lattimore, He joined the Army during World V/ar I and has been in the service, continuously since that time. He is a man that Cleveland County is proud of and while Lavmdale can*t claijn him as a native son, v;e surely claim him as "close kin". We feel confident that all of cur j?eaders are going to enjoy his fine letter. ' ■ Hot Off- the Hoover Rail Lavmdale, N, Car, Dear Staff; I have enjoyed your anniversary issue of "Hot Off the Hoover Rail" o.nd appreciate very much your thinking of me. Nothing would give me more pleasure than to join the gnjag some sunny afternoon and help settle some of the vireighty questions that must come up for discussion. You are rendering a very helpful and necessary service to the country and to the boys from your section in keeping the home ties knotted. Your little publication is ideal fo.r what it is intended. News from home, about relatives and friends, and re ferences to' familiar surroundings are undoubtedly our greatest aid to developing a high state of morale, I knov; from actual experience, as vje receive about 10,000 train ees every four months, v;hen they have just been separated from their home ties. Home sickness is definitely a factor to be considered in early training. The chaplains claim that news from home tdll keep n. trainee in the proper, frame of mind when all other efforts seem to fail, thereby making him more receptive to learning the duties of a soldier. I knovi you do a lot of “work, sacrifice a lot of time,- and call on the neighbors for their help, but you can derive a great amount of satisfaction in knowing that all those efforts are .distinctly worthwhile .and that y u are furthering the war effort in a most helpful manner. Keep up the good work and I am sure every soldier that is on your mailing list ivill long remember this thoughtfulness of the home folks, I particularly enjoyed the item on the Lattimnro clan. Remember me to all the kinfolks and to my other boyhood friends in that section. Sincerely yours, Bussey Lattimore Col, B, B, Lattimore •Field Artillery U, S. Army ,
