with people, who, I believe, were glad fo get away from IMN. From what ) hear after the group returned, the charter was a success, and they ore sold on air transportation. Many thanks to Captain Shelton for helping us out. Without his contacting INT and relaying information back to us, we would have lost the char ter because of no communications with INT. That, my friends, tells the story of “Hazel", the year of our Lord, One-thou- sand, nine-hundred, and fifty-four. May hurricanes rest in peace. Looking through last month’s Piedmonitor, and taking a gander of the front page, it looks like "Uncle Tom's Cabin" is go ing to seem like a dream compared to the out-dated, over-worked, and un attractive buildings now in use. The artist's conception sure does look nice. That's all from here. Ya'H come down and see IMNo That is, what's left of it. Pete Jones WE STBOU ND ASHEVILLE - Hi, you alt! After a year of silence, we decide to contribute to our fine paper. Not much is going on in AVL now that summer is over. We had our 1,000 Club party at the Sky Club on Tuesday evening, October 12. Boy! Were those steaks good! We had the honor of having Messrs. Davis, Hager, Brown, Golson, Turbiville, Ross and McGee all attend. Who knows, maybe with the addition of a few more flights, we will join the 3,000 Club next year. (Mr. Golson, please take note 1) In case some of you don't know us all here at AVL, our Manager is Jim Fields, formerly of RIC, Chief Agent Sam Mur chison, formerly TRl, and Charlie Dono- hoo, an Ashevillian. We enjoyed racing BLF this summer. We'll be back next year, "G. I.", wish you luck breaking into the "Club". A word of thanks to all reservations people of SDF, CVG, and CLT for fast confirmations. Keep up the good work. fli n F: Left to right: Sam Murchison, Jim Fields, T. H. Davis, Charlie Donahoo. Seated L to R: W. G. McGee, Ken Ross, Gordon Brown. Standing: Lee Golson, T. H. Davis, R. D. This has been a favorite question the past month with the underground electrical wiring at Kan awha Airport, CHW, going on the blink. The emergency equipment takes care of tower and field lights only. My answer to the question the first time was that I had just walked out to the counter to check in eight passengers for 39 and six for 36 — lights went out — so the candles were taken from the shelf. Pulling the tickets and attaching them to the manifest was easy, but the poor boys In Operations were literally scared to death at the re verberation of bags rolling down the shute. Then, quietly , Denver and Joe tiptoed over with their dim candles to sort the bags for each flight. This particular power failure lasted four days. So this may ex plain to some of the crews reason for droopy eyes. Girls, 1 must disappoint you - our new single agent, Frank Burns Is a bridegroom of one week, having Married Miss Angel ine Smith. We hope they'll be real happy in their new home on Oakwood Road. CHW is planning to have a new lounge in the old terminal building for employees, flight crews and NRSAs deplaned volun tarily and involuntarily. It will be fur nished with magazines, books, records and record player, with couch and chairs and the hopes of TV, All furniture will be donated. The lounge will be operated and kept by CHW airline employees. I know you'll all agree we needed just such an "abode" for the tired and weary. Know you'll all be interested to hear of Nancy Janey's training to become a flight hostess with Eastern Air Lines. Nancy was in CHW Eastern Communications for two and one-half years. We'll miss her. A loss to CHW, but an added attraction to EAL flights. Guess you all heard of the throng In CHW recently to meet LIberace as he deplaned from Capital Airlines on his way for a concert In HTW. Two thousand eager fans met him. Such a large reception made it ' necessary for him to "abandon" the DC-4 through the nose. The State Police met him - once on the ground - and off they rode with two other police cars to usher them to HTW. I might add - most of the
