PAGE SIX THE PIEDMONITOR NOVEMBER, 1965 PIEDMONT PRESS NOTES ATLANTA — Reporter Lance Anderson: Opera tion agent and past reporter, Kenneth Dennis transfer ee! to Ticket Counter leaving Lance Anderson with his duties. ATL-0 welcomes two new agents, Frank Bea vers and Charles Ivester, to help with our ever-in creasing work load. Charles Price has been out sick for the past month and we’re all looking forward to his recovery and return to work. All the agents here in operations keep their eyes on 1-85 for PIEDMONT’S blue truck and our new nose loaders. We’re sorry to be losing agent Don Ames to Eastern Air Lines in Tampa, but since he had a house given to him there we won’t hold it against him. BALTIMORE — Reporter Ho^vard Lewis: W e sure did enjoy our second steak dinner at the “BARN” in October. Tom Thompson, who gets seasick taking a bath in the bathtub, finally persuaded the navy to let him join. Tom will be leaving us in February of 1966 for a four-year tour of duty. Good luck, Tom, from all of us here and we hope you don’t have to take too many baths. Well, it finally happened, SEASICK SAM moved into his new “mansion”. Since he moved, the neighborhood is finally starting to take shape. They even painted the church. Good luck in that “mansion” of yours, Sam. We would like to welcome Carl Harrison to our staff here at BAL. Good luck, Carl. Howard Lewis’ wife really surprised him the other day when she presented him with a 9 lb. boy. It was a surprise when the doctor said, “It’s a boy.” Mr. Roger Offley just returned from a trip to Cali fornia. He brought back many samples of gold, which he panned himself. He bought some property along a stream and almost struck it rich. He said he felt like “The Little Old Wine Maker” when he went to the taste houses for the different wines made there; it seems you can sample as much as you want for as long as you can stand up and he did just that. Are you people over the system following the Baltimore “COLTS”? Well, it not, you are watching the wrong team because they are the Champions this year. BLUEFIELD — Reporter John Lawrence: Prince ton, W. Va. will definitely have some improvements in the coming year with our Piedmont boys taking over. Eddie Jones was elected to the board of directors and Joe Robertson was elected chairman of the annual talent show for the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Our bowling team is really going strong this season. Last year at this time we were in 14th place; now we stand in 7th place. (14 team league). If we can keep Ken Moses out of the gutter maybe we will be in 6th place next month. After two weeks of getting all the parts to our new nose loader and another week get ting it together, we are now in business. This thing is the greatest. Eddie unloaded the same bag 3 times before Kenny could get it in reverse. We are now trying to figure out why INT sent us a wheel chair with our nose loader. Can you? If any one is looking for a good used pickup or Nash Rambler just write ELMORE & BENNETT MOTORS. If you live in the south the pickup is the best buy. It has no heater. Rambler for those who live in the mountains; it has no battery. Both fully reconditioned. Christmas is the time for rejoicing, so come and rejoice with us on Dec. 23 at our annual Christmas party. PUZZLE ANSWER (0U hii N Pi 7^ itr *• 1 Pi T P> CHARLOTTE — Reporter Louise Ramsey: No one really believed it would happen. BiUy Talbort took his dogs to a show and they did NOT win a ribbon! That’s all right, Billy, we think they are fine specimens of canine beauty. The Davidson football team has been using Piedmont charters from CLT this season and if we didn’t already know when they were returning, it wouldn’t be hard to guess because the girls begin lining the hall two hours ahead of time. Aaron Davis is getting married the 27th of November, but he won’t tell any of us in the office the exact time. We think he is afraid we will give him too big a send off on his honeymoon. Oh well, congratulations anyway, Aaron, and may all your troubles be little ones’. CHARLESTON — Reporter Ruth Shumate: Mr. Hill’s corner of our remodeled office will be completed soon. At the moment he is hoping his fingers will last past the hammered feeling long enough to do the job. He will share his “corner” with Bill Grubbs. Maybe we’ll hold open house the day it is completed. The day the big jet landed brought the usual excit- ment to our mountain top airport. TV, newspapers and all the extra VIP’s were present. Since that day the talk has been of moving the airport to Sissonville, West Virginia. They say it will cost too much to ex pand the present location. The Chamber of Commerce has already approved the move. Only the future will tell. We regret the loss of agent Charlie Welch to his former home at Lake Central. COLUMBIA — Reporter Joe Frick: We had our Steak Incentive party on October 9, at Swain’s Steak House here in CAE. Afterwards we all went over to Frank Beasley’s home. Sorry no one from the home office could get down to be with us. Joe Frick and his wife won the door prize, a portable radio. We also want to take this opportunity to thank AGS for send ing two of their agents up here to cover the station duties so we could all be together. Frank Beasley is in the hospital. He is doing fine and hopes to be out before too long. We want to welcome Carl Rogers to the Piedmont Gang here in CAE. He is a new agent from Lumberton, N. C. It seems that Ernie Banks was going to have a halloween party. The day before the party he asked Barry Hurley if he would have it at his house instead. Ernie was having some work done. Naturally Barry agreed to have it at his house. Ernie was still having the party. Guess who didn’t show up? That’s right, Ernie didn’t show up for his own party. So if he invites any of you to his parties from now on, better think twice about coming. Guess you all heard we sent USC to CHO on a charter to beat them. David Baxley asked Joe Frick to go to the Lake with him the other day after work. Joe agreed which may have been a mistake right there. Well anyway he went with David. They got up to the lake, made about two trips from the car to David’s boat. They finally got the motor on and everything in the boat. They pushed the boat in the water, jumped in and the boat sank. ’Bout as bad as Ernie! Guess you better think twice about going to the lake with NUB too. COLUMBUS — Reporter Shirley Sword: We all had a grand time at the CMH Interline Costume Ball in October. Bert Carlos and wife Myra were the lucky winners of two Class A round-trip passes, compliments of Delta Airlines. Shirley Sword got a 15 minute spot on a local television program to promote the Ball and managed to slip in a couple of plugs for Piedmont. Joanne Short has come back to work following her “Windjammer Cruise” through the West Indies. She is sporting a good tan and hasn’t quite lost her sea legs yet. Station Manager Wallace Kerr and agents Joe Frase, Ray Campbell, Bert Carlos and Keith Douglas have gotten everything ready for winter op erations. Paul Gustafason is enjoying the first of win ter while vacationing at home in front of his fire place. Joe and Bert, our local bowlers, are having a good year in their duel for top average. At the moment Bert leads Joe by only a pin. Both are averaging in the 170’s. Recent visitors to our station were Ken Ross and Will Blackmon. HOT SPRINGS — Reporter S. L. Perry: HSP is ready to begin winter hibernation — please do not disturb until spring. Oh, yes — eighty percent of our staff will be on hand at SHD at seven o’clock ■— in the morning yet — December 17th — hope they don’t expect us to work too. Good night all. Oh again — a little note to dispatch — when the snows starts — please send a flight by occasionally to drop supplies; e.g. paychecks, snow shovels, blankets, insulated underwear ... Well good night. Oh — and accounting — please don’t forget to pay the light bill — we have electric heat (and natural air conditioning). Nighttttttttttttttttt Ho .... Hummmmmmm LOUISVILLE — Reporter J. T. Burger: Everyone here, especially station manager Reggie Powell, is happy about SDF having a record month for passen ger boardings in October. Some of the everyday load ing problems have been solved because of the new nose loader which is being tried out in SDF. It still has a few bugs, so Larry Peters thinks, but all in all it is certainly appreciated. Since our last station news there have been new additions to the Lowell Beach family, her name is Tracy and also there is a new young lady at Ronald Davis’ home. She is named Donna. A few weeks ago Reggie PoweU, Paul Master- son, and Tom Duggins went on an American Airlines trip to SDF—NYC—LAX—SDF to see their air freight system. But, from what has been heard there was quite a bit of partying too. Howard Hughes, lead agent, is now in the hospital recovering from, as he put it, “agent-created” ulcers. Remember, when you or anyone gets the travel bug, you are always wel come in SDF. PULASKI — Reporter Glenn Shanks: With deer season open. Milt Ward is making plans for his annual safari in hopes of bringing home some venison. Hope this proves to be your lucky year. Milt. Speaking of Milt, you should have seen him recently at the PTA variety show. Among other characters he depicted were Maude Frickett, a Japanese tourist, and Casey at bat. Passenger-wise, we are still forging ahead slow ly. We are due two incentive dinners for our past efforts and hope to have another one in the bag by the end of the year. Glen Shanks is now driving a new Sportsman Wagon. The first new one he has ever owned in his many years. Looks like ole man winter is here and we hope to get just about all our flights in now that our minimums have been lowered to 600-1. Hope all of you had plenty of turkey for Thanksgiv ing and here is wishing you a Happy New Year. ROANOKE — Reporter Audrey Callahan: Greet ings!! It has been quite sometime since ROA-M has had any news in our company paper. We guess that is due to our quiet, simple, uneventful lives here at the hangar. (Tongue in cheek) Here is a pix of our ,:;V ' !■ 'a. ■ WILLARD BARNARD, ROA-M own Willie Barnard and his horse “Colonel”. Willie rides his horse each year in our local Christmas parade. As of this writing we have several “great hunters” somewhere in the woods hunting deer. Again this year the hunters are not having any luck in get ting J. D. Arnold to go along with them. Audrey Callahan went rabbit hunting a few weeks ago. C. E. Collins, John Gibson, and Don Collins initiated him into this fine “sport”!!! (?) The poor little cottontails didn’t have a chance between the shotguns and the beagles. ROA-M would like to take this opportunity to publicly welcome Gerald Edwards to our family here in maintenance. He is a transfer from Ops. to us as our Accountant. Congratulations go out to “Bo” Sis and his wife on their recent addition to the family. He is a fine healthy boy. We also say welcome to our new employees — M. E. Ames, W. L, Orange, O. M. Wilson and B. L, Carpenter.
