The Banger is listed at only 14,500 tons. Details of the craft are carefully guarded. The navy now has four aircraft carriers with the Langley complet ing the quartet. Plans announced last year, however, call for the con struction of two more. The York town Is to be completed late In 193 C, and the Enterprise will take to the water early In 1937. William Dawson, who has been serving as American minister to Ecuador since 1030, has been ap pointed minister to Colombia. He Is a native of Minnesota and has been in the diplomatic service about sixteen years. Now a year ahead of sched ule, the $34,000,000 project will be completed in 1930. The Norris Dam is one of the ad ministration's major construction projects. The concrete section of the structure will have a nelgbt of 253 feet from foundation to road way, a base width of 210 feet, and an over-all crest of 1,800 feet. An earth section at the east end has an additional length of 302 feet When the reservoir is filled an area of 35,000 to 52,000 acres will be In undated. The area thus covered is capable of forming an artificial lake covering some 80 square miles with a shore line of more than 800 miles. Two 55,000-kllowatt generating units will be Installed in the Norris dam power house. Licensed by the Post Office department to pick up and deliver mall as the lake boats travel through the Detroit river, the boat has for years taken care of the sailors' mail. The Soviet government has Insisted that women enter all lines of activity, and take up work usually done by men only. Evidently the Russians are not su perstitious. There are few women manning American ships and as a matter of fact, a woman on a freight ship Is considered unlucky, according to an old Yankee tradi tion.
