THE PATRIOTIC- THIEF Tarboro Schools,* Theatres, all Public Plac’es had nothing but pleas solicitations in furlti erence of the Second World War Bond & Stamp Drive. A ten Year old kid who we will call John nie because that isn’t his na me, had no money to buy stamps but after some investigation he found a lady that did. He crept into her house & finding a packetbook with I3 dollars in it he carefully removed a 5 spot and left the rest. From there he went to the Post Off ice and bought ?l^.00 worth , of War Saving Stamps. 20^ of the ’’take’’ he kept for his own trouble. Next day he reported to his defense minded teacher the purchase of the war stamps but not his source of purchas ing power. Police were suspic ious of Johnnie because John nie was not the type of boy to own much less 00 Sc the prrost followed. Never fear,an understanding Judge will try Johnnie, DECORATED 1st, Lt Hames D, Doughtic, son of Raleigh Doughtie of Edgecomb County has been awarded the Dis tinguished Service Cross by G-en MacArthur for outstanding Ser vice in the New guinea Area, JUVENILES BECOME MEN Henry C* Bourne, Jr. is in the Array; his brother Joel is in the Marine Reserve & Wm(Booboo G-illiam is in the Naval Reser ve, Forrest Sledge is in the Navy and Hoke Leggett is in the Army Air Corps, Hoke was 2nd highest of a group of 30 taking entrance examinations & passed just 26 years- after Pa Chauncey^s world WAr.pne enlis tment in the same Corps, NIM3LE ROBERT ■Cpl, Robert Summerlin, one time of Tarboro High, l.nter of Holly wood, thereafter in England and now somers else in Africa has used his nimble wits & feet to entertain fellow enlisted men & big shots. This one tire dancing mnster and all time, all around entertainer ins brought pleasure and relaxation to thousands of homesick toerican Boys on at least three continents. More power to another Tarboro lad who has made good by our criter ian of success MISSING Frank Puckett of the U, S,M, M, IS Missing since his ship was torpedoed.Mr. Puckett is 35 7^^ of age and the husband of Mrs.- Ethel May Puckett of Tarboro They have a 3 yr son Paul.
