"THE GREATEST SHGH^T ON EARTH" “The Greatest Show on Earth," play ing Saturday, September 2, at the Galax Theatre, combines two of iimerica*s most popular entertainments—-a Cecil B* De- Mille Technicolor spectacle and a big-time Big Top Show* This panoramic melodrama of the cir cus and jircus life is supershowman De- Mille*s biggest, most lavish and costliest productions. Ifore than $4>000,000 and almost three years of planning, research, training, and actual production went into "The Greatest Show on Earth." It is the first picture to deal au thentically with the circus and the per formers and workers who keep it rolling. It is also the first Big Top spectacle in which Hollywood stars perform their ovm circus stunts. Among those who flouted the laws of gravity in the interests of exciting reedism are Betty Hutton, who soars daringly above the tanbark^ and Cornel Wilde, who stunts precariously on the flying bar. Gloria Graheme with a jaunty disregard for the fralities of the human body supports an elephant*s foot on her face. Other stars are Charlton Heston and James Stewart. Made with the cooperation of the Ringling Bros.-Bamum and Bailey Circus, the Dd^lle epic featiires hundreds of Ringling *s famed attractions-—circus "flyers," acrobats, tightrope walkers, clowns, perfonning elephants and horses, as well as the entire menagerie of animals gathered from the four comers of the world.
