ROTARY BARBECUE - JUNE 26
The Rotary Barbecue , scheduled for
Saturday, June 26, will be an excellent
opportunity to support the Highlands
Recreation Center. At the same time,
you will be pleasing yourself with
delicious chicken, pork and ham prepared
by Jack Taylor, Billy Tate, Charlie
1‘feybury, Jim Raper, George Schmitt, Jack
Calloway, and Paul Schroeders.
The barbecue will be held at the
Highlands Fire Department from 11 a.m.
until 7 p.m. with all proceeds going
to the Highlands Recreation Center, The
price for each plate will be $2.00,
Serving the barbecue on Saturday will
be the members of the serving committeej
Ernie Stevers, Bill Matthews, Tom Allen,
J.B. Chadwell, Alvin Crowe, Harry Long,

If you stop by the Highlands
Community Theatre any night this week,
you*re apt to see sixteen eager cast
members practicing the Charleston, the
Black Botton or singing any one of a doz
en faintly familiar tunes of the 1920*s.
The HCT production of "The Boy Friend,"
a musical spoof of the flapper era, is
now in full rehearsal at the Community
Theatre under the direction of Mke Hall,
music director David Hagan, choreographer
Alice Haig Berman and script girl Karin
Hagan.
Six performances are scheduled to
begin Thursday July 1,;at 8:30 p.m. A
Sunday matinee, July U, begins at 2:30
p.m., and evening performances resume
Friday and Saturday, July 9-10, at 8;30
p.m. Reservations may be made by stop

OX ROAST FESTIVAL
The Ox Roast Festival should be of
particular significance to all Western
North Carolinians and those of us who call
it our part-time home.
Legend has it that Flora >lacDonald
helped Bonnie Prince Charlie escape from
Scotland to the Continent. For this, she
was imprisoned in the Tower of London.
After she was released, she came i^ith a
small band of refugees to Western North
Carolina. After their first crop was
gathered. Flora and her friends celebrat
ed after the old English custom of

PRESBYTERIAN RECEPTION
On Sunday afternoon June 2?th be-

Presbyterian church will host a reception
in the Educational building at the church
for Mr. and I^rs. Raymond Barfield, newly
