Stone IxinteAn, HJighJLandAf N.G j; 15 ARE GRADUATED FROM HEAD START The final parent meeting of Plill Year Head Start for this summer was held Thursday night July 29, with a record of 72 in attendance. A covered dish supper was served with the main event being the graduation of 13 boys and girls who will enter " big school" this fall* The students demonstrated some new dances they had learned. The dances wore taught by Mrs. Gail Stephenson. The parents of all of the youngsters who attend this program would like to thank Mrs. Virginia If or ley, ffrs. Bonnie Brjrson, iy&:s. Jessie Manley, J4*s. Doris Talley and all the aides and volunteers who helped make this year a success. We do appreciate all of the fine work that has been accomplished this year with our children. The follomng is a list of those who graduated from the school: Sandy Crane, James Sdtrards, Roger Hicks, Linda Houston, Elaine ifcCall, Julie McCall, Susan McDowell, Sheila Moore, Jerry Nix, David Reese, Donna Reese, Timothy Talley, and Angela Wilson. Mrs. Virginia Worley stated that the new session will begin September ?• ^Picnic* Production Funny, Bittersweet by Prancien Ifeckle Michael Hall and his company have done a fine production of ’’Picnic" which opened Thursday night, a play both funny PAGE 7 and bittersweet. The set is extremely impressive, one of the best I have seen in summer stock, and good lighting effects by Jim Painter added a lot to the visual enjoyment. Costumes were good and, for the most part, authentic early 1950 s, but a few were much too conten?3orary. Connie Foster and Betty Anderson are excellent as neighboring houseid.ves whose husbands have deserted them. One woman is left with a demanding invalid mother, and not much else. The other has two teen-age jealous daughters, Millie and K^ge, plus a frustrated spinster schoolteacher, Rosemary, as a boarder. Into this group comes Hal, a good looking virile young drifter of dubious past and before his brief stay is over, he upstes the lives of this group of females in many ways. David Ikylor gives Hal a certain awkward charm with a lot of sex appeal. Ginny Cortez as Rosemary and Bob Niemeyer as Howard, the unwilling suitor, are extremely strong performers. Their scene when she begs him to marry her is superb. Pretty Kay Cortez, even though a competent actress, plays Jfeidge rather unemotionally and lacks the grace and sensuousness the roll calls for. Robert Smith as the rich boy friend is quite believable, and Pat Nesbitt is bouncy as the young tomboy sister, ^Ullie. (Continued on pf?« 15)
