lard. Ralph Kennedy. William
Pierce. Darrell Huffman, and Bud
dy Cunningham. Even with losses
among the ranks (some conflicts
in the new rehearsal hour) the
chorus membership has increased
over last semester.
The singers hope that with the
aid of Professor Lynn Brown <and
the new eleven o’clock practice
hour) they will be able to pro
duce "new qualities of sound and
performance that one would expect
from a group that practices at a
reasonable morning hour instead of
a weary late afternoon hour.”
Anything new can make people
happy or unhappy. There were a
few of the former on January 21,
when there was held the year’s
first "private recital” of students
who took private music lessons
during the first semester.
But we must confess that there
are also reports that the debut
made quite a few students uncom
fortable and nervous. Yet. there
has to be a first tim* for every
thing, students, and next time you
perform the feeling won’t be half
so bad ^and we hope that some
of your performances can actually
stay as good as they were in Janu
ary.
Among the performers were
Paul Crouch, with a Spanish song,
and Peggy Nicholls, with a song
by Brahms. Marjorie Blinson play
ed a Bach piece on the piano.
James Hemby played an old Eng
lish Drinking Song.
Two wind players were L. J.
Benton. Jr.. who played the clari
net. and Carol Stone, trwnpeter.
Thelma White sang Reger’s
‘Virgin’s Slumber Song.” Delano
O'Neil sang Schubert’s “H ark.
Hark, the Lark.”
Other singers were Ubby Rum
ple, Peggy Martin. Irene Glover.
Annie Rackley. and Qeanor Hat-
sell.
Also playing the piano were
Pauline Stephenson. Annie Rack
ley. Joyce Strickhauser. and Peg
gy Winstead.
Soloists on the new chapel {upe
organ were Buddy Cunningham
and Peggy Marlin.

DATE OR STAG
Date or stag! It was fun! It did
not lag, and none were shunned!
Just ask anyone who went to the
Sock Hop Dance. It was held in
the gym on Saturday, January 24.
from 8:00-11:45.
As each one came in. his or her
were checked at the door, leaving
everybody to dance in their socks.
The "Belle of the Ball” was
Miss Sarah Bain Ward with her
hair down, wearing ACC socks and
a big shirt.
Music was furnished by David
Batts' band.
