Monday Thru Saturday
weeks ago. Track Coach Jim
Corbin is faculty advisor to the
group and Jerry Harris is
student director. Topics
discussed varied from referees
to the possibility of changing the
type of football used in intra-
murals. A proposal had been in
the air to change to what is
sometimes called “Carolina Tag
Football,” which involves less
contact. The decision was to
continue as in the past for at
least one more year.
The first intramural sport of
the year was Putt-Putt. Alpha
Sigma Phi topped all or
ganizations with a 196 while
Sigma Pi took second and Sig
Eps captured third. Bobby
Andrews led a field of 75 putters
to take individual honors.
Intramural football saw
limited action this week due to
Rush with only independent
teams pitted against each other.
The week beginning Monday,
Oct. 12 will see all teams back in
action. All football games are
played on the intramural field
behind the tennis courts at 4:00
p.m. All rained-out or postponed
games will be rescheduled at the
end of the regular season.
On scores reported to the
COLLEGIATE office, the
standings are as follows:

Practice Begins
Fall practice began last week
for the ’71 Golf Team, and will
continue through the last week of
October. The A.C. golfers are
coached by Mr. Ed Cloyd. These
weeks of practice will determine
what men qualify for a position
on the eight-man team. Coach
Cloyd has four returning letter-
men in Bill Corbin, Miles Deen,
Joey Gilbert, and Steve Jones.
About fifteen newcomers, trans
fers and freshmen, have seen
action in practice.

Self-Defense For Women
Karate For Men
On Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 8:00
p.m. in the old gym, the PE Club
will sponsor a demonstration in
karate to be given by Mr.
Michael Britt, a black belt
holder. Following the demon
stration, students will be given
the opportunity to register for a
course in karate for the men and
a course in self-defense for
women.
The women’s course will last
for eight weeks, meeting every
Wednesday night from 7:30-9:30
p.m. The classes will be held in
the old gym beginning Wed
nesday, Oct. 21. A small fee of
$12.00 per person will be charged
to the women. Anyone interested
is asked to bring the course fee
at the time of the demonstration.
The men’s karate course will
be held at the same time as the
course for women. However, the
fee for the men will be slightly
different. In order for the men to
be eligible to earn belts, there
will be an additional $4.00 fee for
the Karate Federation dues. As
a member of the Federation, a
man will be eligible for his first
belt after three months of in
struction.
Mr. Britt will continue teach
ing the course after the initial
eight weeks if there is evidence
of enough interest. The initial
cost of the program is $16.00 per
person for the men. Each ad
ditional month after the first
eight weeks will be $6.00 per
person.
