APPLE HARVEST FESTIVAL A little thing like a whole lot of rain didn’t dampen the success and enthusiasm of the Apple Harvest Festival in Hendersonville Labor Day weel^nd. An estimated 20,000 attended the events on the program which began Thursday night, September 2, with the beauty pageant and square dance contest, and ended Monday, Sept ember 6, with a mammoth street dance for which Hendersonville is famous. Miss Juanita Thompson, a pretty blonde of sixteen summers, was the choice of the judges (and spectators, too) for the honor of Festival queen, being selected from 22 beauties who paraded before the judges. Carl Sandburg’s square dance team, representing his goat farm at Flat Rock, romped off with square dance honors, along with Vernon Rogers and his string band. Both participated in the Chicago Railroad Fair in the Windy City Septem ber 16. The Ecusta square dance team and string band were among the final five selected to per form in the finals and gave splendid performances. ■ , ''A' ■ .
